Just wondering when toning down on training ( having a rest for holiday or a injury etc) can fitness levels be maintained by not doing as much exercise say for example instead on running in the morning fast paced then boxing in the evening / weight training aswell 6/7 days a week too slowing it down to one session a day either a run or boxing training say 4/5 days a week how long would it take to really see significant differences in fitness??
That should be fine. You may actually see some benefits. The schedule it looks like you keep is pretty intense.
You won't lose any fitness, as Von says it may be beneficial. Because as BB suggests intensity is more important. Your body needs time to recover/adapt and higher intensity when you do train will get you to a higher level of fitness. Training every day like that is just holding you back from reaching your potential, where did you get the idea that you should train like that? Physiological markers of detraining can appear after just 3 days of no training but it's nothing that will really affect your fitness until 2 weeks of no training. That is in terms of cardio fitness. It's been suggested that strength can be maintained by doing as few as one session every two weeks. Maintenance is doing one or two quality sessions a week, what you're talking about isn't maintenance. Aim for quality over quantity and enjoy your rest days. Vary the way you train week after week because that makes a difference as well. The way you're training at the moment will just create boredom and burnout while you grind yourself slowly into a hole.
Thanks for the replys just wondering as well if did just 3 boxing sessions a week nothing else would there be a big drop in fitness after say 3 months ?
if you're just boxing for fitness and you're talking about 3 months doing only boxing sessions, you might want to mix things up.
if your getting a lot of sorness in your joints, you may want to go into just toning exercises. I usually do this for my fighters after a tournament. I usually have them do medicing ball or weight lifting for a month as kiind of a maintenance thing
:deal short 20-30min sessions with high intensity a few days a week will help you maintain fitness and may even improve it....
