Mairis Briedis is an underrated fighter

    People who were hyping Gassiev didn't realize that Usyk had a much tougher road to the finals. Briedis made Uysk dig deep for his win and gave him all sorts of trouble.

    People knew Briedis was a good fighter, but I think he proved to be an even better fighter than we expected giving how Gassiev performed against Usyk yesterday.

    Wins over Charr, Durodola, Huck and Perez were no jokes. He's the 2nd best Cruiserweight behind Usyk. If Gassiev fights Briedis, I'd favor Briedis.

    People thought I was an ass for saying Briedis would beat Gassiev.

    Well..... I still say it, with even more authority, Briedis would beat Gassiev.:deal:

    Briedis is an outstanding fighter. I'd like to see Charr give him a rematch so a cruiserweight could usurp a heavyweight belt.

    I agree with the opening post.

    Briedis is clearly the second best cruiserweight, better than Gassiev and the other contenders.

    Nothing wrong with this thread, but styles do make fights. Maybe Gassiev looks better against Briedis.

    Gassiev and Briedis for the undisputed championship when Usyk moves up, and then they all rematch at heavy for a belt when Usyk rolls Wilder.

    I agree Breidis gave Usyk more problems, but styles make fights. Gassiev's Arthur Abraham 2.0 type style would fair better against Breidis, than it did against Usyk, due to Breidis style of fighting. He doesn't use all the angles and such that Usyk does.

    I said it months before the fight, Usyk won the WBSS when he beat Briedis, as I expected Gassiev was too slow on his feet

    James Ali Bashir (who has seen Briedis up close and personal in camp with Wlad and Vitali) said Briedis is good boxer, very composed and that he was never hurt during any of his spars with Wlad which is a rarity for any fighter that has sparred 30 or more rounds against him.

    CW Sergiy Radchenko who has sparred Wlad, Usyk, Briedis, Huck, Glowacki, Wlodarczyk, Kudryashov and Chakhkiev among other said this about Briedis

    ''You just can't be lighting fast and hit hard at the same time in this division, although Mairis Briedis is an exception - he is fast, the second fastest guy I sparred behind Usyk, and hits very hard''

    Yeah. So do Lebedev(when he was fresher) and Drozd. Pretty much any other CW of recent past/present Gassiev beats though.

    I'd pick(with confidence) for Briedis to beat and probably knock out any HW barring the top 5 of the division and wouldn't count him out in any of those fights either. He's a top operator. With speed, fluidity and precision that most modern HW's couldn't cope with.

    I'm not even sure who is number #1 and number #2 at cruiserweight, Usyk or Briedis. Usyk vs Briedis 2 is sorely needed after their first cracking fight left everyone without a definitive conclusion. Fights that close deserve a rerun.

    He looked good against all those HWs he fought in the Bigger's Better tournament, knocking most of them out IIRC. Granted they obviously weren't very high level but to balance that out look what he did to Charr. No one has taken Charr out in that kind of fashion, let alone someone so much smaller than him.

    Remember what Chef (Klitschko's chef) said about him?

    I don't think many truly appreciated the privilege of having a top insider like CHEF around... a lot of idiots flamed and attacked him, and after Wlad's career really started to wind down the buffoonery on here was probably too much for him to deal with. Flaming with other posters is one thing... But when boxers, trainers and other insiders post... Why scare them off?
