Damn... they need to make that Okolie fight ASAP, Mairis is not getting any younger, almost 37 years old. Still looks great though
Briedis needs to have significant fights from here on in. This was a waste of his time. Money in the bank, I guess.
Well, I think money and risk / reward already had made these talks started since spring as just talks. I do know that cruiserweight is considered as cheap division etc, especially after some rumored Usyks purses ( I heavily suspect that mentioned sums were take home after manager's, boxer's promoters %, training camps and taxman had been paid out ). It was rumored somewhere in internet that Okolie, when had lower profile ( didn't had WBO World title ) had approx 250k for fight vs then beltless coming out of TKO loss and rusty Glowacki version. I even suspect that most likely in GBP not EUR or USD. Now Okolie does have WBO CW World title and is undefeated, not likely he will fight vs Briedis for even just 250k GBP. Especially if bearing in mind rumored other Briedis opponents purses ( btw for me looks pretty realistic ) : Durodola with WBC Silver belt, coming out of great stoppage win, ranked then #2 by WBC and in up and coming 35 y.o who needed some win/ wins to get World title shot: approx >200k. Glowacki version from fight vs Briedis approx >300k. Dorticos get considerably more. Okolie isn't dumb and will ask initially more than 500 k GBP , most likely a bit more than 600 k GBP. If not 1m eur. Briedis too will ask money, he get not bad $ from WBSS2 and looks does have some endorsement and ad deals. He also for me looks with a bit more net worth than it is rumored.
I agree cos he in january will be 37 y.o. BTW, how fight and undercard fights had looked? I didn't had time to watch cos I had other things to do.
Briedis looked old and rusty? It might not be surprise. Even WBSS2 had I think over the hill Briedis version. All these: Gevor, Glowacki and Dorticos. Briedis had fought vs Dorticos approx 15 months after his last fight, now this was a bit more than 12 months after Dorticos vs Briedis fight. Briedis isn't 26-27 years old lad, where they sometimes even are better after 1 year inactivity as paid fights. He soon will be 37 years old. Usyk had 33 years old Briedis version in the ring. Also these other boxers: Hunter, Glowacki, Gassiev were younger and even Huck too, he is only 3 months older than Briedis.
I have heard of those other boxers but if you can pronounce Glowacki one way and then another way then who's to say you can't freedom?
Well, when Usyk had fought vs Glowacki, this was in Poland. Glowacki then was undefeated as a pro and 2-0 in World Title fights with WBO title on the line. He was younger and appeared that he then had really good chin: Huck almost had won vs him in U.S and even had managed to drop him. Glowacki is good in opponent's mistakes usage and does have finishing instinct. Huck made mistake, Glowacki hit him once with heavy punch and then capitalized effect by battering with a glance. Then he had title defense fight in U.K and had been valued higher than now for sure.
There is a beautiful moment in the airplane movie from america that which says Leslie Nielsen "I see you, doctor." and he say "And, I see YOU, nurse." and it is a very beautiful meant to convey meaning of namaste between said two of them. And that I believe that if we do this in boxing more with the opponent it would be a beautiful thing, you see.
He looked good, but this is not the same guy from the Usyk fight. He's still sharp, but I can't imagine him keeping this up. This content is protected
