Its all good saying that in hindsight. But at the time Lacy had alot of hype and so did Bute. Although there was a question mark over Butes resistance after Andrade. If GGG loses when he steps up it will just be the same. People will say he was a hypejob and beat B class fighters. GGG doesn't get a special pass. He comes elite once he proves it at elite level. I don't see how it isn't obvious. Every other fighter gets judged that way or least they should do.

Why are you quoting my post to say that? Has nothing to do with what I said.

Of course. Not only me but for the boxing world that was Hopkins coming out party. He went from a very good champion to great that night. So will GGG if he beats Cotto. Its not size its dealing with an elite skill-set and just the timing , defensive skills etc are all higher against someone like Cotto as opposed to ****ing Matthew Macklin! This is common sense! Beating Geale , Macklin , Rubio and Journeymen like Stevens and Rosado doesn't make you elite. If you cant see that then just wtf

How convenient for you. Cotto will never fight Golovkin so you will never run out of ammo.

I dont think he unifies if FMJ goes against Cotto , FMJ will take the belt and wont defend it for as long as possible (similar to cotto) , then he will fight a voluntary against Canelo or something if FMJ wins he will wait until the last second and vacate if he loses Canelo will sit on the belt for ages.
the best thing that can happen is PAC fighthing FMJ for GGG.

In my opinion part of the problem is that MW, at the moment does not seem overall as tough as it was a few years ago with Hopkins, Joppy, Holmes, Schenk, Krajnc, Simon, younger Sturm, Cherifi and then other fighters like Echols, Eastman etc.
I dont think that Macklin, Lee etc would get past fighters like Echols, Eastman, Cherifi.
Chances are that if Golovkin was in that era, we would have got to have seen him against some of those fighters.
Also if Cotto was to fight someone like Lee, it would probably be considered a bigger risk as Cotto is a former LWW who has fought at LW, whilst Golovkin is a natural MW.

Still I do think there is a big fight for Golovkin, in Quillin.
Quillin is an undefeated former world champ and if Quillin gets a win over Lee, he will be an undefeated 2 time MW champ.

I could see a fight between Golovkin and Quillin going one of two ways

Its not just MW that I dont think is as strong as it was a few years ago, I think the same with SMW and LHW also

Well Hopkins was the underdog against Tito who had just destroyed Joppy at 160. This was because he had beaten good opposition in his defenses and not top level ones. He was expected by most to get beat by the proven elite level P4P fighter in Tito Trinidad. RRJ was already considered P4P number 1 before he moved to 175 and im sure if he had just been at 175 his whole career and had that resume only there would be huge question marks about him. But that is not the case he had beaten proven elite level James Toney prior. If GGG gets ducked by Cotto and other elite fighters and he continues to beat good contenders without moving up and getting a P4P type fight then there will always be a question mark about him. Not saying its his fault. I think you really need to look at the opp hes faced up to now. Its not the resume of an elite fighter. It really isn't.

Oh and Austin Trout would beat everyone on GGGs resume and hes beat Cotto.

Geale is world class but Lee and Murray aren't? Geale lost to Barker who in my opinion was worse than Murray and Lee yet they aren't world class? Do me a favour :hi:

It's a shame Haymon has control of Quillin and Jacobs. HBO should put on Golovkin v Andrade.

Golovkin's critics will not relent until he's beating down "their people" in every fight.

Good points. I don't understand how people can say GGG needs to beat Cotto to be considered elite. Cotto isn't even rated highly at MW by most people. If you are by far the best in your division then you are elite imo.

Austin Trout almost lost to Daniel Dawson, an average Aussie but he's going to beat Geale a weight class above? gtfo

Same detractors every time. It's blind belief in the supremacy of the black American fighter when in reality Golovkin wrecks every one of them 160 and below inside 5 rounds.

It's a shame those fighters are all behind Haymon or Golovkin would have done it already and we wouldn't have to read these fantasies.

If Cotto ducks then GGG will have to find another way of testing himself against elite level skills to see if he can overcome somebody who is actually better than just good. I actually like GGG I am not a hater. I just think the hype is silly considering his opponents. You don't mention his opponents much. Why? Your talking about RJJs wins at 175 but he beat better comp than Geale and Macklin. GGG has beat good fighters in good fashion. Is that enough? Not really. There have been many fighters like this over the years who are too good for B level fighters but fail against A level fighters. I know he passes the eye test and he has a great style but he should be judged like everyone does.

Trout seems to have slipped lately. But he was an elite fighter i think. Beat Cotto and arguably beat Canelo. Answer this question if Trout had GGGs resume would you consider him elite? GGG is exciting and a cool character but it doesn't mean he shouldn't be judged like everyone else does.

RJJ beat Reggie Johnson , Montell Griffin , Virgil Hill and Tarver at 175. Thats not too shabby. Its milesssssss better than ****ing Macklin , Geale and Stevens. Come on man.
