Never was even slightly impressed by this guy, but after watching his most recent fight against basketball player Akpejori I must say Makhmudov is probably the most overhyped HW in last decade or so. Surely, he has size and huge power, but is slow as hell, his skills are very, very poor and his boxing IQ is nonexistent. This content is protected Some people rank him in their top 10 and others favor him to beat Fury and Usyk. I mean, really? Based on what? On his best win (by far) being a life-and-death close decision victory over 41 y.o. washed up Takam, who was knocked out by Chisora years ago? I think both Usyk and Fury would completely clown Makhmudov from the very beginning and knock him out in mid- to late rounds. AJ, Wilder, Joyce, Zhang all would knock him out easily. People are criticizing Hrgovic, but I think he would knock him out in couple of rounds as well. I think Makhmudov will probably be able to beat some more old shot veterans but I can't imagine him ever beating legit top 10 fighter. Not possible for the guy who makes Deontay Wilder look like prime Larry Holmes in terms of boxing IQ and skills. No matter how big and powerful he is.
He is overhyped. He went life and death with Carlos Takam. Don't know why he's in the top 10 heavyweights for a lot of people.
He doesn’t even throw a proper jab. Barely any setup in his power shots. Just wings it until it lands. big and strong, but barely any skills.
1. Fury 2. Usyk 3. Joshua 4. Wilder 5. Hrgovic 6. Zhang 7. Joyce 8. Ruiz Jr 9. Sanchez 10. Bakole I only give him a chance of beating Bakole and Ruiz Jr because of inactivity and the fact he doesn't train hard anymore.
He DID NOT go "life and death" with Carlos Takam. And he's NOT overhyped, he's disparaged. He knocked Takam down twice - nearly knocked him out in the first round - and won every round. Takam was in survival mode for most of the fight. People disparage him a lot, as they always look for excuses to belittle East European boxers (Usyk, Klitschkos, Hrgovic, etc.). The commentators on TV are always very negative about these boxers, and some boxing fans who don't think for themselves just parrot what these commentators say. I'd like to see him back in the ring soon, but in Montreal where he's more likely to receive fair officiating.
Carlos Takam was knocked out by Joe Joyce one fight before Mahmudov. He was also knocked out by Povetkin, AJ, and Chisora. Arslanbek Mahmudov is 34 years old, and I cannot say that he is a "talent". There are no strong fights, he is shouted down and overrated. However, I think that others shouted and overestimated him much more than he himself made statements like: "I am the future champion of the world in the heavyweight category".
I like Makhmudov and only a small number of fighters can beat him, he is big and strong and therefore a danger to everyone.
Tye Fields was also big and strong. Of course, he also had incredibly glass chin, and Makhmudov's chin doesn't look as bad even considering his one-punch KO loss to Omarov in the amateurs
Solid top 10, think the only change I'd make is Zhang and Hrgovic based on their fight against each other and their previous performances.
He's already 34. They should cash him out against a younger HW prospect. I agree he's not that good, you need way more than physical power to be a top HW
