If Big Mak can get by Allen later this year this fight needs to happen. The winner I promise would get a shot at a big money contender or a title shot sometime next year as either one would be seen as easy pickings. Also it would have an element of a loser leaves town match, Chisora would be too old to continue and Makhmudov would be viewed as losing to a dinosaur and his options are narrowed. Who do you like?
I view this as a step down for Chisora given where he sits in the rankings. Great opportunity for Makhmudov sure, but what has he done to earn this fight? Even if he beats Allen, I don’t think he would earn a fight with Chisora unless Derek wanted a stay busy fight against a heavy puncher, which is doubtful. That said, I think this would be a fairly entertaining but crude slugfest. I’ll go with ancient Chisora to pull out the win, but not without taking some lumps in doing so.
It would be a good fight, I think Chisora is more versatile and more proven at a higher level, if Chisora still has something in the tank he would be able to stop Makhmudov...
Totally... Makh has been hyped very hard at times, claimed as a H2H nightmare even for legit contenders, but doesn't even have the resume to really even justify gatekeeper status. Chisora on the other hand is called a gatekeeper from almost every angle, whilst actually giving legit contenders a difficult time... Nobody is making ridiculous threads asking how old Del would manage against past ATG's, yet even this week we've had a ridiculous question about how Makh would do against Dempsey. Even ancient borderline shot Chisora would crush this can - and he's not going to waste his last few bouts on low hanging fruit.
Surely to be a banana peel situation it has to be someone from a lower tier that he should beat, but could easily lose? I don't see that...
A banana peel is when a fighter's team slips up and puts them in with somebody they arrogantly/incorrectly believe to be an easy cherry-pick, but it blows up in their face (more like a cherry bomb )
I certainly don't think so. Chisora may be 41 but his recent performances (Washington/Joyce/Wallin) all looked more than good enough to beat Makhmudov. Hell, h2h I'm not even sure I'd strongly favor Makhmudov over any of those three.
Mahkmudov has done fine when he can bully guys who fight in fear of his power and size The guys that fought back kicked his ass. I think Chisora would out tough him and knock him out
I'd love to see that fight. Chisora is a true gatekeeper. He can't beat the top guys, but he can beat everybody else. If you can't beat him, you're not at the top level.
Makhmudov would be a pretty underwhelming opponent for Chisora's last fight. I do think Makhmudov will just have enough for Allen but I'm not that confident, on top of Allen in my honest opinion being just a British level fighter at best. Which goes to show what Makhmudov's level really is if he is barely good enough to potentially scrape past British level fighters. Whereas, Chisora on the other hand is a seasoned vet who has dealt with fighters like Makhmudov before, and if they were to fight - Makhmudov might land a couple good shots early as he has some power at least but Chisora would just outwork him quickly enough and bully the bigger man until Makhmudov quits on his stool in the mid rounds.
