Just for clarity we should be clear that those excuses/explanations are from after Joshua won the rematch. Context is important.
Is there any video footage of AJ mocking Wilder after his loss to Fury? I've seen Whyte and Chisoras one but I don't think Joshua mocked Wilder after his first loss which is class, especially considering Wilder had plenty to say and smile about when Joshua loss to Ruiz.
"By a lucky punch. By a punch sent by the gods," was before the rematch. Personally I don't really care about boxers making excuses, and Wilder's are particularly embarrassing, but pretending like Joshua didn't make any because they're "explanations" is a bit ridiculous.
Wilder was embarrassing...however Khan was genuinely in pain. He got hit in the nuts, you could see it in his face.
He only came out with this after he won the rematch though. Wilder was talking about his clothes being too heavy within hours off getting whooped from pillar to post. And what about the due respect shown to their opposition? This is what Joshua said the night of his defeat: This content is protected Meanwhile Wilder's out there saying Fury isn't a real champion. Do you not get bored of this? Quarreling with god knows how many users in every bloody thread to defend (in vain) a deluded, egotistical, detestable hypocrite?
A lot of athletes, especially ones at the top, have insane self belief and fragile egos. If they have to tell themselves a story to get past a loss, so be it. I don't really care. It can be amusing. In regards to AJ's response post-Ruiz, I think he was very underhanded. Referred to it as a lucky punch from the gods yet overhauled his style for the rematch. Sneaky.
Fair enough, but the implication that he rattled all those off in the aftermath of the first fight is equally so.
Some excuses are just explanations. Some aren't. Geale mostly blamed his loss to Cotto on the catchweight which - if you saw the way in photos - was absolutely legit as an excuse for being so sluggish. And to his credit, he fairly blamed himself too for taking the money grab. A lot of the excuses given post fight may well be legit, and I wonder if that's any better than complaining about camp and stuff before a fight. There's a PR side to the game that requires playing too.
https://images-i.jpimedia.uk/imagef...19/04/amir-khan-low-blow-terence-crawford.jpg That's gonna hurt no doubt, but he wasn't hit in the nuts. Unless he's got big balls. And if his balls were that big, he would have carried on fighting...
I once got kneed in that exact same spot when playing football (soccer) Let me tell you, it goddamn hurt. Right in the joint and the pain travelled down. Could barely walk for a while and sat most of the game out after that. I was holding myself like my nuts were hurt.
Granted. I agree it must have hurt. I still think he was looking for a way out and not taking the five minutes or even considering doing so, is a sign he'd had enough - at that precise moment. I think, though, it's something he probably regretted almost instantly...
