Yeah we fans are guilty depending on whether or not the fighter involved is our own. When I 1st got on these boards several years ago, I made a concerted effort to stop doing it after realizing how crappy I must have sounded after reading other fans' excuses lol.
Wilder could of said - I got my tactics all wrong, from my weight to my style. I didn't see Fury being able to execute that gameplan and he managed to take me out of my game and get the W. He can only do that once. He won't surprise me again. I know I have the power to hurt him and if I get my tactics right next time then it's me scoring the big win not him. That would of been acknowledging Fury whilst still talking himself up and telling us why he believes he's the better fighter but his stupidity and ego won't let him.
Floyd won the fight and he actually did hurt his arm as the rotator cuff tore but he soldier on to win.
Pretty sure the point you initially made was that you didn't like how Joshua's excuses are called explanations by some fans, whilst quoting the Ruiz 2 postfight interview. But let's leave it there, rather than talking past each other. As I suspect we agree that the lucky punch stuff was a lame excuse. Though I will add that Joshua got a lot of heat for that comment. Just as Wilder is now, and rightfully so
