I've seen this a lot with regards to the potential Joshua vs Wilder. With people either siding on the "Wilder doesn't deserve a high cut" argument or the "I'm a boxing fan i don't care about economics i just want to see the fight". I personally fall down on the "Wilder doesn't deserve a high cut" side, not because i don't want to see the fight, in fact quite the opposite, i hope we get it at a sell out wembley stadium in the summer of 2018 and we witness a fight that could actually be labelled "The greatest of all time". Both guys taking heavy knockdowns, both severely cut, both drained of all energy and barely able to walk etc etc. The problem is though, 'over-paying' Wilder, or Parker, or any potential opponent, sets a very very bad precedent for boxing in the future. It will simply be the ambitions of many fighters to never take a risk, like Wilder, until they're guaranteed a huge payday. We will never see top 10 guys square off against each other. We will never see tournaments like the one currently arranged by Sauerland. Fighters will simply wait until they become the guy who is the 'undefeated best of the rest', avoiding fights until they get that mega payday. It's bad enough currently with the huge issues us fans face of the 'political' nonsense of rival promoters being unable to cut deals....but it will only get worse if boxers do not look to take risks until that 'one money fight' is offered.
