First of all they have to pay Floyd his guranteed $32M, Canelo most than likely will demand upwards of $10M. Thats $42M in just your main event card. Then you have undercards which if they include some big names will cost them quite a bit as well.

Thats just before prodcution cost which will be even more than all the pureses put together.

Is it really a smart move by Showtime to make this fight?

With their supposed pre-approved list of opponents, don't be surprised if Showtime and Mayweather already have another 5 Gurerro type fighters lined up (which will all make $3M, instead of what Canelo would demand)

No way. The extra ppv buys you'd get more than make up for Canelo's high purse.

if all Showtime has to do is guarantee $50 mil then you can book your flight to vegas now. Not sure Floyd wants Canelo to get that much money.

The PPV buys for this fight would easily cover the extra that Canelo would make. Not only that but you dont need any stars on the Undercard if the Main Event is this massive. It could be filled with all of Floyd's TMT guys. People will still pay just to see the Main Event

Yeah, I imagine they'd stand to make a pretty good deal of money. This is the only guaranteed seller.

Make it next Cinco De Mayweather after Canelo beats up Cotto in September and that **** would do 2 milli buys.

Alvarez is no Cherry pick which is why I believe they would even consider Khan at this point.
However you will at the very least have a rematch between the two both undefeated world champions both draws thats major cash.
and if the first and second fight are both entertaining and close fights I am sure we get a trilogy out of it... could mean big big money for all parties involved.

Floyd says he has five left, likely he will face Khan next, look good in knocking out Khan while Canelo on the same PPV event split site event, will look good in destroying Cotto.

Only to add more interest in their showdown... The question I have is... Does Floyd fight someone else after Khan other than Canelo?

I think he should fight Canelo next if we end up with an exciting Trilogy out of it Floyds a paid mother ****er showtime wins and GBP wins. that would leave him with two fights left no matter what the out come question is how does Floyd want to go out on a win or a loss?

if he waits until the end and decides to save Canelo for that final bout well he increases his chances of leaving with a loss.

    I believe Canelo beats him

This PPV would be monstrous if Cotto/Canelo were on the undercard. Would never happen though. Canelo is too much of a ****brat these days.

Cotto/Canelo and Floyd/Khan in seperate events, then fight in May. if Canelo did beat Floyd, big money rematch in September.

    GBP wins.

If it is true that Mayweather vs Guerrero did a little over a million PPV buys, then Mayweather vs Canelo would do a massive amount of PPV's. Massive. It is sheer madness to think May-Canelo wouldn't at least do 1.5Mill, the very least.

Guerrero was basically an unknown, never headlined or co-main event a PPV in his life, didn't even appeal to the Hispanic fans according to the PPV demographic numbers. And still the fight did 1mill. Mayweather-Canelo would do Tyson-Lewis type of numbers, 1.6-1.9, I wouldn't even be surprised if it did 2Mill. Add the possible high ticket prices and a sold out arena. Mayweather-Guerrero did $9million in gate revenue, May-Canelo would do around $15mill.

The PPV will be $60-70 bucks, let's throw a number out there, 1.6Mill buys at $70 dollars with 80% of buyers buying HD, and the other 20% buying standard = $91,520,000 in PPV revenue + $15mill in gate revenue = $106Mill. Cut the $91.5Mill in half for the network provider = $46Mill. Floyd gets his guaranteed purse plus some extra from the PPV and Gate revenue, let's just say Floyd takes home $45million [And from those $45million he pays every one their cut; Haymon, GBP, Corner, etc].

After Floyd gets paid, there's $16mill left for Canelo and the undercard. Sounds like more than enough money to me. Undercard fighters get at most, in the mid 6 digit range, unless it's a special undercard like Canelo vs Mosley was.

Disclaimer: These numbers are false and may or may not be way off what the real event would generate. They are for discussion purposes only.

That's what they were saying about Mosley in late 2009.
