The world is an interesting place. And an unfair one, like most people would agree.

Take hyped up heavyweight boxers. They set up 2 matches a year, with at least 5 months gap between them. What are they doing during those 5 months? You don't know. They can't be training every single day.

They make lots of PRs, quarrels, dirty talking etc via social media to hype the bouts up to increase the revenue.

On the other hand, if you look at 80s' and 90s' boxing champions' careers, they had made an average of 4 matches a year.

If you make only 2 matches a year, and if you avoid (duck) certain opponents for a certain amount of time, you guarantee to hold the belt for a long time. This is UNFAIR. This is unfair to the challengers, to upcoming talents, to boxing industry and to boxing fans.

If the champions are too proud of themselves and if they claim to be undisputed kings of their division, they should make at least 3 matches a year, and they should be banned to duck opponents.

It takes time to build and promote big fights.

and this is why Usyk is the fighter of the year in all publications... 3 fights in 1 year, all top contenders... collected all the belts, undisputed champion. no excuses. AJ needs to look up to Usyk

Some fighters train year round even if they fight almost 2 times per year, these are the more professional fighters and usually more successful fighters. Others just train when they are in camp for a fight, balloon in weight between fights and usually have less success.

While boxers fight less often now, they also have far longer careers. There's a reason why boxers are no longer shot my their early to mid 30's now and can fight until their late 30's even early 40's and still be close to their best. Also only having to peak twice per year means they are more likely to put in consistent performances, the more often you fight the harder it is to peak and be at your best, the more often you fight the more likely you are to under perform and lose.

Personally I wish they were a bit more active, having 3-4 fights per year, but it is what it is.

Usyk did have the advantage of the WBSS, that was a tremendous platform.

AJ did demand too much initially tbf, I don't think he wanted Wilder or Fury anywhere near as much as he claims.

So you think guys in the 90's and 80's were clean? Or was it just that they fought more which is why they faded sooner.
