De La Hoya on paper. Malignaggi on fight night.

To be fair to Manny, he wasn't to know that DLH would **** up his weight that much and look that bad on fight night, but he still knew he wouldn't make 147 without being very drained, and knew he was a shadow of the great fighter he once was.

Malignaggi wasn't a great fight, but at least the guy put up some resistance and punched back. He was also regarded as the #2 at 140lbs, so Ricky can't really be blamed for taking the fight.

Hoya was the better test. Paulie had nothing in his arsenal to bother Hatton.

Actually, he didn't punch back. He just held the whole time. That's the main reason his corner stopped the fight. Paulie was a handpicked opponent that Ricky knew couldn't trouble him.

Exactly. Hatton was tested against someone who has good boxing skills & uses them in the ring. Pac was just there to perform in a circus act.

In Hatton's defense, Paulie put up a good fight against Cotto, so I wouldn't say that Hatton's camp thought it would be as easy as you say.

Cotto beat the hell out of Paulie. Cotto walked right threw those punches and busted Paulie up. Besides, that fight was 3 years earlier. Team Hatton saw how bad Paulie looked against Ngoudjo. They knew Paulie didn't have a prayer.

He did hold a hell of a lot, but for a few rounds he tried to circle and use his jab at least. De La Hoya basically stood in front of Pacquiao and waiting to get knocked out.

DLH was in there drained as f_ck. At least Hatton's opponent was 100%

Yeah and that was against a weight drained Cotto.

Funny everybody said that Paulie gave cotto all he could handle and that he would bamboozle hatton. I remember before the hatton fight lots of those who know their boxing said that paulie had the style to beat hatton. Maybe just maybe Hatton is a great fighter. Just thought i would throw it out there.

We can talk about everything on paper and before fight night, but on the fight night both looked like absolute crap and offered zero resistance.

It's like choosing between the smell of dog **** or horse ****. It really does not matter at all.

The only thing I can say for it is at least De La Hoya WAS a somebody, and a somebody that looked okay against the former p4p #1 not too long earlier, Malignaggi is a never been.
