Okay, he did lose on the cards, but: - no title on the line, no 0 in the record to lose - improved skills, no hand injury and warrior heart to give a lot of confidence to himself - tremendous, exciting performance to give something to the fans - losing on the cards but winning in fans' heart made him a lof of fans - charismatic, emotionally involving post-fight raging stating EXACTLY what people's problem with boxing, more sympathy for him - HBO love characters and Malignaggi is a genuinely interesting one, getting another opportunity based just on that is almost certain - he's the light welterweight, not Diaz, Juan won't "block" his possible LWW opportunities - DiBella is already talking of a Khan fight, there's young Alexander and Bradley looking for a nice fight too, and don't forget about Maidana and Urango all looking for a name to get back on US television. All these fights sound excellent from the fans and TVs standpoint This non-title, catchweight loss actually helped Malignaggi IMO. People didn't really like him before, didn't expect much here after the Hatton loss, but Paulie put on a tremendous performance, won the heats of the fans, spoke the "truth", created controversy what HBO really like, and proved a point to himself too: his career is not yet over. People are upset, and rightfully so, and that's all good for Paulie for his future. He'll get another opportunity in no time, don't you worry about that. :thumbsup
I still thought Diaz was ahead by a round, Diaz did more damage with his shots and appeared to be the more steady guy in there, Paulie in alot of spots looked shakey on his legs but not hurt shakey more of a nervous shakey to me Diaz won the fight but it was very very close. There was no robbery in having Diaz as a winner the robbery was the wide scores, they all should have been tighter than that, and that was the only robbery last night IMO This content is protected
I think Paulie's stock did go up. He brought himself back, there. Maybe he won't get another big fight but he put himself back in people's minds for now. Yeah.
Paulie was robbed but could come out of this with another big fight. This controversy and PM's subsequent ranting about golden boy sets up a Paulie vs. Victor Ortiz match. This match suddenly has fan appeal and interesting story lines. Victor comes back against a light puncher in an attempt to resurrect his young career. Paulie after a good showing against Juan is once again considered a viable oppenent. Paulie is motivated to bend over Oscar and Golden Boy. This is a great potential fight and HBO would gobble this up. If you listen to the pre-fight presser, Paulie used Ortiz decision as an example of fraud. He said Ortiz quit, adding to the intrigue of this future match up.
Exactly. I know Paulie is very frustrated and angry right now, but he raised his stock, his marketability and his profile in the minds of fans with his performance and speeches. Hopefully once he cools down he'll realize that, and realize that he still has more opportunities left. Maybe not a ton of opportunities, but he still has some options.
He definetly got two new fans last night, my friends though he was great. He looked sharp last night, great jab, great movement and a great speech. Personally I'd like to see Paulie vs. Nate Campbell.
After everything Paulie said last night after the fight(everything was true), I will not expect to see Paulie getting a good fight in HBO any time soon.
I hope that drag queen retires, his lack of punching power is sick..:-( If you can't KO anybody be prepared to accept getting ****ed over by the judges:deal..
