His race has nothing to do with anything.

I know, it's weird how much focus race still has in America. The recent election put a lot of that into the spotlight.

I remember a thread a few months back where Junior Witter's lack of popularity in the UK compared to Hatton and An American chimed in that it was obviously because he was black and a black boxer could never be popular in the UK :lol:

Were you not around in the 80's?

Aren't you American by the way? Nothing against you being American, I just wonder how you feel so sure about the British psyche and reasons for popularity within the working class if you are not British.

Muhammed Ali is probably the most loved sportsman ever in Britain and not only was he black but he wasn't even British!!

Exactly!! I have been speaking to a lot of Americans about that recently.

The race issue just bemuses us in the UK! Maybe the US would stop having such racial troubles and tension if they stopped putting so much importance in it!

Instead of racial problems, we still have class problems which is just as ridiculous!

Ummmm No. Witter said that himself. He said he was getting big fights because he wasnt a black Brit.

    Pfft. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/uk/2001/summer_of_violence/default.stm

Britain is 90% white. America is 60% white. You do the math why race is more of an issue in America then Britain.

Race has been of the highest issue in America since its creation!

In England there are cities that are almost, of not majority none-white.
I'm also not claiming that we don't or haven't had problems with race in this country but nowhere near to the extent that USA has. Like the USA has never had the same problems with a class divide that we have but you have still had problems.

EDIT: Also, White British people in the UK make up just under 84% of the population.

I've no idea whether Witter said anything like that. I don't recall it.

What I described did occur, however, I know because I replied to the bloody post!

Look, Paulie's being given too much here....his only notable fight is against Cotto...when he lost.

Granted, the first N'Dou performance was great, but N'Dou is a solid-chinned gatekeeper. Decent no doubt, but not Elite. Yet in their 2nd fight (hair or no hair) N'Dou hit Paulie...a LOT. I also scored the Njgoudjo fight against Paulie.

I don't like Paulie but he is undoubtedly very tough and has talent. But I honestly think, Lazcano wobble aside (which Paulie isn't going to do with his punches) Hatton is the same Hatton. Yeah, he lost against Mayweather....so what? He had some nerves against Lazcano but from what I've seen he looks better already with Floyd SR (who would've thought it) is in great shape and has minumised ballooning this time (as much as he can.)

He looks up for this one, Hatton is clearly a very good fighter. Mauling/schooling (by PBF)/and whatever your thoughts about the Collazo fight/Tszyu being shot/Castillo being shot there is no doubt that these variables can apply to a lot of Elite level fighters best wins.

Paulie has never mixed in this sort of class, shot or prime. Well, he has ONCE. When he was brutalised by Miguel Cotto. Cotto's last fight at LWW when he was feeling very weak and he still beat Paulie (admittedly less experienced than he is now) handily.

I predict a Hatton UD (as I said, Paulie is very tough) but I'd love to see a Chavez-Haugen with Ricky punishing Paulie and eventually stopping him.

Although I'm hoping for a close fight, with spurts of brawling amongst the boxing, an in-form Paulie with a fired-up but more subtle Ricky Hatton (the kind we were supposed to see in the Money May fight) with Ricky slamming a left body shot into Paulie in the championship rounds and stopping him.

(I'm now going to copy and paste that into the numerous prediction threads, saves time)
