The problem with boxing fans is, a boxer is a modern great or a complete fraud. Its impossible for a legit contender, and definately world champions to have an off night and not get panned. If they have a bad day at the office they are written off as bums, doesnt matter how many guys they have beaten in the past or how many world titles they have won, if they win a fight by split decision, or is floored, or is even stunned by a shot they are bums - doesnt matter who it is!:verysad
It was only a matter of time before his lack of power caught up with him. People are not scared of his pitty-patty slapping punches. I don't think I've seen weaker uppercuts then what Paulie threw in this fight. You need at least decent power to keep guys off you in the ring. I think the bigger question is what does this tell us about Cotto and his inability to dispose of Malignaggi.
Nothing. Cotto won against a awkward boxer who is currently a 140 title holder. Styles make fights. If Joe bloogs comes along, walks through Paulies punches and KOs in a round, that does not then mean Joe Bloggs will KO Cotto in a round.
I disagree and think it shows that Cotto is not as much of a monster as folks make him out to be. Mosley fight proved it further.
I think the problem here is that not a lot of people gave Ngoudjo a chance against Malignaggi, and expected him to be taken to school by Malignaggi. So when Ngoudjo puts up a good fight, they put blame on Malignaggi for being crap instead of acknowledging that Ngoudjo is a better fighter than people thought.
Again Cotto edged a very good fighter in Mosley, a fighter many fancied to beat Cotto. Ill give you an example of why you are a short sighted plum, Ali, Frazier, Foreman - All have fought each other, Ali had 3 tough fights with Frazier, including one loss and one life or death struggle in Manilla. Foreman spanked Frazier out early, literally lifting him off his feet with his power blows. But when Ali and Foreman came head to head, Ali schooled him, laying on the ropes, countered and knocked him out late... Styles make fights.:good
He looked pretty bad (and lost) against Baily so it was hard to estimate how good he really is. I think he was not afraid of Paulie's power, hence he threw everything he had. Sometimes missing wildly. Overall was not very impressed with either of them yesterday. If I was Malignaggi's next opponent I'd take some cues from this fight however.
According to your logic you can't make any predictions or judgments based on fighter's performance. But I took a look at your posting history and it's brimming with such judgment calls. Like when you said that RJJ should not be fighting anymore. Styles make fights mate. Don't judge somebody on how advanced they are in age. Just look at Foreman's record! Seems like you're a bit shortsighted and judgmental yourself. It'd be somewhat pointless to have a discussion board if one wasn't able to express an opinion.:good
I never said I disagreed. As a matter of fact I agree. You missed the point though. This content is protected
