paulie at his best beats diaz at his best, that said if recent performances are to go by diaz should take this
i dont neccessarly agree with that, i think malginaggi is a much more sound fundamental boxer then diaz, you take away diaz's pressure, he has really bad boxing skills....i'm picking paulie if his head is in there, if not diaz wins.
Never seen anyone predict a malignaggi KO win because he is so feather fisted. Even his most ardent supporters only ever tip him for a UD. I heard all this prior to the Hatton fight with statements like "paulie is a real slickster ,he will be too slick for hatton".
I actually opened this thread to point out all the other times he had said this, thinking he had really said it. He BETTER say it. It's like his "If you SMELL! What The Rock! Is cooking!"
That's just nonsense, jeff. Diaz has good fundamentals, solid jab, high guard, superb footwork, closes the distance expertly. Look how he handled Katsidis, constantly turning him, using the jab to put him off balance, throwing short 3-4 punch combinations - that is not someone with bad boxing skills.
no if you annoy diaz which i think paulie can with his world class jab, then diaz will have a very tough time, like steward said commentating, diaz has a hard time when he faces adversity.....diaz is a one trick pony imo, he comes running straight forward throws a gazzilion punches and you have to keep him at bay with a jab at first, if not paulie toast, and paulie is like I said a far better student at the craft then diaz when his head is in the game.....and is a ring technician(smarts) compared to diaz by a mile.....if paulie comes mentally then he has a chance if not, diaz brawls him to death.
You said Diaz has bad boxing skills. He doesn't. End of discussion on that one. If you want the styles... Diaz uses movement to negate a jab - it was one of the things that gave Marquez bother early on. He's handled adversity before - he got knocked out by Marquez - what can you do? He was still fighting back till it happened. Against Campbell, well **** happen. He fought his heart out till the end - Campbell fought the fight of his life that night. Paulie doesn't seem to have a plan B and his plan As not up to much either. He took a thrashing from both Cotto and Hatton. Diaz is certainly more nuanced than Hatton is.
he was cut against campbell, and was out of it from that point on, but did show heart,i think he has a lot of heart, just seems clueless when something doesnt go right IMO, once marquez adjusted to him, he was the same guy running forward, with very poor footwork and bad lateral movement, now its all subjective to the viewer, but thats what i see when i watch diaz, i think put it this way, his boxing skills are just a B in that department....Hatton and Cotto both had better boxing skills then diaz, and diaz is not the great pressure fighter of hatton, or slickster of a cotto, diaz wins fights by throwing a lot of punches, and overwhelming people that have a lackluster jab..... but like i a said, its all subjective to the viewer, i respect your opinion.
"He can box well when he wants, but......" "i'm picking paulie if his head is in there" can people cut the crap with Paulie and STOP making excuses for him? I mean what, was Paulie "not being there" a credit to his poor performances vs Ngoudjo, the N'Dou rematch and vs Hatton? at some point you have to stop putting it all on Paulie, and give some credit to his opponents as I've seen Malignaggi's last 5 fights, minus the Fernandez bout and IMO it looked like the same Paulie to me, with the only thing changing is level of opposition. and Jeff your right that Paulie does have a very strong jab, and strong boxing fundamentals, but outside of that he really lacks a lot, and doesn't have much else to rely on. and I'll refuse to go by this "oh he wasn't there excuse" as why is it a worry only for Malignaggi, and not other fighters?
Lol. Juan Diaz waltzes this all night long for me. Sorry Paulie, it's a UD for Diaz. Hopefully the winner of this fight will pave the way for a rematch between Diaz and Campbell @ LWW.
