My point is "official rankings" or otherwise, Ward is clearly one of the very best at 168-175, and the reason for his inactivity stems from promotional issues, largely through bad decisions he has made outside the ring. By your logic, Leonard never deserved Hagler.

And I definitely don't think Ward is unbeatable. There are guys who can beat him, and out of those south of cruiser, I favor Kovalev against him and give a few others a solid chance. Even GGG moving up from 168 would have a chance.

    This is 100% correct.

Fighters should be ranked in whichever weight class/es they beat legitimate contenders in.
If they beat the leading contenders they earns shots at whoever is recognized as the main champion in that weight class.

That's the way it should be.
Sadly, most fans don't understand that.

Why would Floyd go to 160? He has never fought there.

This ignores what is and what should never be.

Reality has never worked that way in boxing. There have always been political maneuverings and other shenanigans behind the scenes.

Why did Pacquiao and Margo get the opportunity to compete for a vacant 154 pound title at a catch weight of 151 when neither had done squat at the weight?

Why did Canelo get to face Hatton's brother for his first vacant title?

Why did Vitali Klitschko get the chance to face Sam Peter for the WBC belt after a 4+ year retirement?

The business side of boxing, and the underlying corruption that exists in the sport, will always prevent your pipe dream from becoming a reality.

The reality now, in the context of this thread?

Ward vs GGG is a better fight than GGG vs Mayweather, on a multitude of levels. It's also far more realistic to come to fruition.

    Of course he didn't !

Most the magazines and boxing writers at the time knew that, and many of them mentioned it, the WBA actually stripped Hagler and the IBF wouldn't sanction the fight !
There was a whole queue of worthy middleweight contenders, and Leonard jumped the queue having never beaten a ranked middle in his entire career !
    Not at all deserving.

..... but Leonard brought the casual fans in, he brought huge money to the table !
(which doesn't quite apply to Andre Ward, does it?)

It's true that Malignaggi's words hold no weight, but if Golovkin's team were 100% confident that he destroys Ward at 168, they have made a couple of offers already.

Also, in no parallel universe is a joke of Chavez Jr more important or bigger than the Super Six winner Andre Ward.

    With that being said:

    1) Golovkin isn't avoiding Ward until he actually moves up to 168
    2) Malignaggi has always been worthless, he still tried to create a fake picture with most of what he said
    3) Rumsfeld has a slight agenda when Ward is talked about

I agree with what you are saying. I've criticized all of those fights and all that corruption before. Pac-Margo was a joke, I agree.
    Yes, it is reality.

But not every big fight in history has been like those you describe.
    Especially in old school days.

And, in fact, boxing is better when the ratings system is adhered to, and contenders eliminate other contenders, and the champs fight the contenders, and people who come back from lay-off prove themselves with real fights.
Instead of just a few star fighters (Pac, May) or wannabe stars (GGG, Ward) making it up as they go along.

Yep. I have no doubt that Canelo would fight GGG if it was up to him but it's not up to him. Oscar won't allow his cash cow to face GGG. Canelo already has one loss but that was fine because it was against PBF in a mega fight. He won't be so willing to risk that against a high risk low reward guy like GGG. I think Oscar is hoping Lemieux can either beat GGG or atleast make him look bad by either hurting him or making it close thus hurting some of the hype that surrounds GGG.

The problem here is that Bumlovkin would prefer to keep knocking over TOMATO CANs than he would care to dare to be great...

    Actually yeah, they should.

Bumlovkin has no business whatsoever calling out Mayweather. Especially when you consider that Mayweather in all reality is a 140lb fighter who campaigns @ welter. Most any natural welter walks into the ring @ 160lbs. Floyd walks into the ring @ 150lbs. Bumlovkin, OTOH, walks into the ring @ 171-172lbs. Bumlovkin needs to quit knocking over TOMATO CANs, quit calling out small welterweights and go see Ward.
