I agree but I don’t think you can get that same leverage while punching up though, your core is not as involved as when you’re punching something on more natural height levels.
On top of that, unnatural body movements can and do result in injuries. Burnet is the best recent example. Haye was learning how to punch up before his fight with Valuev, google what his right knuckles look like.
I’d say you can’t hit anything above your own forehead (roughly) with the same force you’d punch a target on the level of your shoulders & down.

Interesting point by Paulie but they look to be about the same height to me.

A slight change in angle of the punch from punching 2 inches down to punching 2 inches up is going to make no difference to how hard wilder hits.

A fighters power is all down to whether they actually have power or not, not whether they punch slightly up or slightly down. Otherwise Mike Tyson would have been featherfisted and Tyson Fury would be a monster puncher.

And that's why you aren't a k.o puncher or never knocked out anyone significant, you have no experience of even hitting a Heavy bag probably so why come at me with nonsense ?

Mike Tyson had great technique and was a huge unit at 5'10 and about 220 in his prime so what on earth are you talking about ?

Angles and the direction they come from directly determine how hard the punch can be. Wilders OWN trainer said the twisting of his motion and height of the punch determine if you see Wilders hardest punch ( his exacy words were we know when wilders hardest shot is because he his belly button faces wide left which shows he is fully motion )but I guess im just clueless what do I know? you guys know it all.

Read the first part of your post and laughed. I have boxed as an amateur. You literally have no idea what you’re talking about and I knew that the moment after I started reading your replies to people in this thread.

You’re either a troll or an idiot, take your pick, because no one can say something as stupid as ‘angles and the direction they come from’ and not be either thick or trolling. Either way I’m done talking to you after a grand total of one interaction. Bye.

You cant get as much leverage punching up...read this dopes LondonRingRules reply above who claims hes an am boxer but insists angles and direction don't matter in generating power or have influence., every punch is the same I guess for every fighter and gravity is non existant in this thread and doesn't apply to punching mechanics ,its all science fiction and acceleration doesn't matter ..You cant accelerate punching up due to gravity because the punch cannot speed up or maintain velocity ? ..lol

“If Deontay hits you with a right hand and his belly-button is facing you, it's so-so.

"If he hits you and his belly-button has turned a quarter to Deontay's left, it's a very good shot"

“If he hits you and his belly-button has turned almost completely sideways to the left, it's a knockout punch"

“It's about the torque of the waist and the turn of the back foot coming through the hip and the deltoid protecting your chin."

“Tommy Hearns, a tall and skinny guy, said it was about the turn of the waist. Where your belly-button ends up shows you exactly how much power is in the shot.” ( funny never saw this one yet was telling people its the waist that generates power time and time again only to have idiots like you and the rest tell me I have no idea what im talking about ,i guess Tommy Hearns doesn't know either ?...lmao )

This is Deas ,Wilders trainer explaining the direct ANGLES.and DIRECTION that determine his POWER ,you know the ones you say don't matter and you've boxed ? No way! You couldn't even figure out why short Tyson was a power puncher and labled him an example as if every short guy should hit hard and every Fury like fighter should be a k.o puncher due to height and call me the troll ?....what a dope ! lol..

Sorry, but I don't think Paulie has the authority to comment on any boxers power

I don't think he has to hit up that much at all. Seems like Fury's size (stated as 6' 9") gets exaggerated, as he wasn't visibly bigger as 6' 6" Wlad in their "fight". Wilder is 6' 7" and that seems to be about right and realistically even in size with Fury, so that's only a very slight upwards angle from shoulder to chin.
Don't think it loses that much power on the shots, or makes it harder to hit him.

I struggle to understand when fans on a forum say that a two weight world champion doesn't have the authority to comment on anything related to boxing.

Gravity is everything, yes.

Imagine a boxing match in zero-gravity and you will realize how important gravity is as a factor.
Imagine a weigh-in in zero-gravity.

Gravity is just about everything when it comes to all physical activity on earth.

He's not wrong though, is he ?
Upwards is working against gravity.
Downwards is working with gravity.

An uppercut works on the basis that gravity is pulling the target down, and is especially effective because it can connect square on the chin, a vulnerable point.

Fury and Wilder are the same height anyway, more or less.
