He's not quite yet...But he can and probably will be, whereas Paulie is on his way out.

What has Guerrero ever done? :huh

Sorry, Ill take a badass loss to Cotto (whether people want to remember or not, the fight was competetive) and a win over Juan Diaz over beating Katsidis and a shot Casa any day. (A shot casa that put Guerrero on his ass in the final round too)

They have fought two COMPLETELY different levels of opposition. Malignaggi has lost most of his big fights, so what.

If guerrero thinks hes somehow too good for Maligaggi, hes sadly mistaken. This is exactly the type of fight a guy like Guerrero takes to enter that next stage of opponent.... guys like Maligaggi are the stepping stones to the top fighters at 140 and 147 at this point.

But Im fine with this, I didnt want to see Guerrero on the card anyways.... and with his dumb ass turning down fights they were actually trying to scrounge for him because nobody else wants to fight him because hes completely irrelevent lol, so they find someone just so they could put him on the card, he turns it down and will probably be left out in the cold on this one anyways. Serves him right.

IF guerrero fights someone on the undercard, I bet it wont be as good an opponent as Malignaggi would have been. And if he doesnt wind up fighting on the card, I garuntee thats a much dumber move then taking a payday and showing his name to the mainstream audience that will be tuning in.

Dumb move by Guerrero, unless he actually does wind up with a better opponent. Which I doubt.

and good on maligaggi for going after the fight, it would be a good fight for him at this point and one of his last chances.

    just imo

The Mexican really got put on blast here. I wonder what was going through his head after reading what Malignaggi had to say about him. The fact of the matter is that what Malignaggi is saying is true. The Mexican should just check the challenge.

Guerrero has been acting like a complete tool recently. He should be taking any fight he can get right now.

I disagree Kirk. Diaz was removed from his prime...Not only that, but Diaz a blown up LW had to fight Paulie who is naturally much bigger at Jr. WW. What's so good about that?

So what that he lost ALL of his big fights except the Diaz fight and got two gifts against Contenders in Ndou and Ngoudjo? Not impressice at all. I give Paulie credit for having heart, and being a fighter first, but that doesn't automatically mean he is good...He got the IBF and should have lost it immediately in his next fight but got a hometown decision...oh yeah, this is the guy that cried when he felt Diaz got the Hometown decision.

I think Guerrero feels a fight with Malignaggi doesn't do anything big for him.

    1. Paulie has a style to make stinkers.
    2. Paulie has the style that won't allow most fighters to show case their goods because he is defensive.
    3. Paulie has ALREADY been beat, KO 3 times, and imo lost to Herman and Lovemore... What's Guerrero going to prove, that he beat an even more washed up version than Amir and Hatton did? Why fight Paulie?

There's better fighters that would make better stepping stones.

I don't think they'll leave him out because he didn't want to fight Paulie...If anything, this was a favor for Paulie by GBP. You think Paulie will ever be on another big PPV?

What makes Paulie so good Kirk?

I don't see why rejecting Paulie is dumb...He's terrible.

Its not that its so good, its that having your best opponents period, let alone your bestwins be against an even more shot Casa (who dropped him) and an even more worn out and shot Katsidis isnt any better.

My point was they have fought two completely different levels of fighters, which stands. Guerrero has fought Salido (lost), Katsidis and Casa..... Malignaggis opposition is vastly superior. Which is why his defining fights are his losses instead of his wins.

That is all potentially true, Paulie certainly can be like that.

But why should he fight Paulie? Because its the only relivent fight on the table for him for the biggest event of the year in boxing.... thats why.

Because whether people like it or not, beating Maligaggi means more then him getting in with some no name slugger and mopping up. People in the boxing biz know who malignaggi is, most fans (probably all real boxing fans) know who malignaggi is. And RG beating him makes a bleep on the radar at 140 and 147, becauses websites still say "Guerrero dominates Malignaggi', and not 'Guerrero dominates Peter John', or... worse for him, no headline at all..... Him beating Malignaggi, someone that other fighters know and can use as a measuring stick, gets him somewhere, him beating some nobody impressively, doesnt.

Ones that are ready and willing to fight Guerrero, a non entity at 140 and 147? And on May 5th for the biggest event of the year?

    Who?

Its not about 'well Guerrero could possibly get this guy or that guy in June or July', its about getting Guerrero a relivent opponent soon, and most preferably, on May 5th for GBP's massive PPV.

Hard to say.... he is used as a step up fighter for the world class guys, thats why Khan fought him in the first place. I could totally see something like Judah vs Malignaggi being made as an undercard fight to Mayweathers next fight or something similar. So not sure if we will see him again or not.

What makes him good as a fighter or what makes him good as an opponent for Guerrero.

I bet whoever ghost fights is not as good as Malignaggi because like I said before, they simply wont have the name recognition that Malignaggi would. I will be reading "Guerrero dominates nobody' instead of Guerrero batters Malignaggi. Name recognition matters in lower level fights like this. Especially for someone like ghost whos trying to break into the scene at those weights.

We will see, if he gets a different quality opponent that makes him look good in an exciting fight (which I doubt), maybe it turns out not so bad, but if he winds up off the card its a dumb move regardless.... you dont turn down a payday and a chance to make a statement on the biggest event of the year because something else might come up down the road. Thats just silly, and dumb.

To each their own, its just imo

Guerrero really needs a better PR or something, he's gone from being a widely respected fighter to everyones favourite **** in the space of a year.

I mean on paper it looks okay but i really can care less for this fight style-wise. I just dont see it.....

Kinda lame for Guerrero to pass this up since Paulie is a good name and its being televised on a Mayweather Cotto PPV BUT its not a fight where im like 'oh snap guerrero malignaggi?! Thats gonna be sick!' It just doesnt cut it for me... haha

This is an interesting fight and I'm really surprised Guerrero turned it down. It would be a fight he could win( I see it close to 50/50) on a huge show. If Guerrero were to win that fight he could very easily be in position to be Mayweather's next opponent.

Steve Kim said Guerrero also turned down a fight on that same card with Selcuk Aydin. That would have been an even better option for Guerrero, I think he beats Aydin and it would be a much more exciting fight.

Maybe Guerrero has someone else he thinks he might fight on the Mayweather-Cotto card and thats fine if he does. We don't know all the details but, as of this moment, turning down these fights looks pretty bad on his part.

He WONT be if he doesn't put himself out there on big fightcards like the one being offered. Malignaggi has headlined in a sold out MSG- given, he lost the fight against cotto that night... but the two of them packed the house!

Guerrero hasn't been a part of ANYTHING really big yet- he beat up a hasbeen in casamayor and he outslicked katsidis who is also a bit shot and tailor-made for him anyways. Other than that he has fought people even boxing addicts who look at every fight under a microscope have never heard of. Padded recorded top 30 fighters.

Guerrero is less experienced than his record would indicate. I'm not saying he doesn't have skills. In fact I favor him to win the fight should they meet, but he needs to pay his dues before he can take on the top tier of fighters and Paul Malignaggi is the perfect person to test his skills against.

Do not count malignaggi out of this one though either- he comes to fight and he has a difficult style to approach. He shows up for better competition.
