Malignaggi vs Mosley OFF Malignaggi vs Maidana ON

10x easier than Maidana.

Based on their last two outings, I've got to favor MRM by KO here.

Obviously a prime SSM would do the same to Malignaggi, and earlier, but the Mosley walking around these days is barely fit to be sanctioned - let alone prime. No trigger instinct whatsoever. Different animal from the current Maidana.

 

OK, but what I was referring to where you quoted there is Maidana (the actual ranked, active welterweight) being more deserving of the chance to lift it from Paulie than Mosley. :good

Granted, Pablo Cesar Cano is much better than Angel Martinez - but even so it's apparent from these performances that Malignaggi's little Cinderella run (beating a paper skinned paper champ and then defending via gift decision over a barely above average fighter in PCC) is coming to an end:

Maidana dominated every second and got his man out of there. Really unimpeachable performance, and he's looking much tighter than even a few months earlier against JSK. Marked improvement, and his power is still a force to be reckoned with at 147...especially now that he's delivering it in a more controlled manner.

Factor in that Malignaggi was badly hurt by Cano throughout the championship rounds before and after being dropped once in the eleventh. Cano isn't quite as heavy handed nor relentlessly aggressive as Maidana, and he set up his late-stage damage with body shots - something at which Maidana has begun to really excel. I had it 115-112 to Cano in the end.

 

Agreed. Paulie seems to actually care what his fans think and the Mosley backlash is the reason why he is looking to take on a more formidable challenge IMO.

I'd favor Maidana here by TKO late. Would be an interesting fight for sure.

 

That was a long time ago...especially Cotto who dealt Malignaggi the most legit excuse-free beatdown of the three (with Hatton catching him during the McGirt dark days, and Khan at the tail end of that & beginning of his current pronounced down-slide in reflexive ability) - and Cotto pounded years off his career.

Inferior to Cotto and Hatton, maybe, but he proved h2h against Khan that he operates on about the same level as him. Khan - who's faster than Maidana but with less snap and about as sloppy - hurt and easily beat Malignaggi.

If it was likely to go to the cards, I'd say yeah, chance of Maidana getting robbed.

Malignaggi has big brass balls, and he's going to show them one last time here. :good

The thrashing I'm envisioning has gotta be the last one he can take. It isn't like another fluke world title reign is going to fall into his lap at this point.

Yes I guess my negative feelings for Paulie due to the robbery against Cano has clouded my judgement.. Shane has looked awful lately. I just figured a faded Shane Mosley could cause problems for Paulie if he landed a right hand.. It's a case of me not respecting Paulie's fight game..

Paulie has amply leaky defense and enough cracks in his chin for any big puncher with a reasonable work rate to have a chance against him - but the problem is Mosley lacks any work rate whatsoever anymore, and the punches he does throw have very little spite in them. He is a pathetic shell at this point.

Paulie would simply outbox him with jabs and flurries constantly breaking up the old man's concentration.

Maidana on the other hand is young, fresh, and hungry - and like I said, looks to have finally started to bear fruit after years of trying to retool and improve his style.

that performance has absolutely nothing to do with anything. martinez was coming off three ko losses in his last four fights and two consecutive ko losses, one just four months prior(it is generally agreed upon that fighters take a minimum of three months off after suffering a ko loss before any physical activity which means no training). angel took this fight for the money and probably didnt even train other than to make the weight.

the angel martinez fight has absolutely zero relevancy to guage the abilities and punching power of maidana at 147.

and who the hell is jimrex jaca(the boxer that ko'd angel just four months prior to the maidana fight)?
