its impossible to say how much mosely has left but if the shane that fought mora still exists he simply walks down pauli with impunity.

probably stops the b-level blown-up junior welterweight.

i was very much hoping for this fight as clueless people would have pauli opened as the heavy favorite and this fight wouldve been a great example on how to middle and make money. my guess, after the weigh-ins, mosely would be bought down to at least +150, if not lower after starting at some unwarranted number of +300.

 

i think Maidana probably stops him late Paulie seems to gas late
he will probably win the first 6 rounds but then keep gettin dropped and the ref stops it

 

Maidana is far less of a clubber nowadays. You can clearly see that. In the Morales fight (which everyone that has written Maidana off point to) also the Khan fight he was swinging away as if it was the world combat league. He has looked better since, he knows when he can or can't finish and isn't as eager to shoot his.. Well, you know.

Even from Alexander to Soto Karass, there was some noticeable progress...although he still clearly had plenty of work left to do as JSK found space through his "fat" shots to tag him back plenty.

(and again, I realize there's a drop-off in defensive boxing skill from Alexander to Soto Karass - but even taking that into account, you could still mark progress on Maidana's part and extrapolate that he was tightening up a bit)

Hopefully its a nice payday because its going to hurt. These are both some of my favorite fighters so it's going to be hard to root for either. I'll probably root for Paulie because I expect him to have a lot of trouble (And he is definitely the underdog).

 

agree that "energy-wasting sprays of arm punches" and "fight-planning" away from that can be a positive tnagible attribute.

but you insinuated that he is now throwing straighter punches due to technique, as if he never knew or was informed on how to develop this, after going nine years on the professional level and probably five years on the amature level.

i can think of maybe five guys right now that have successfully changed their technique and abilities after close to 15 years in the game. wlad, paq, hopkins, mayweather and cotto.

if you havent learned proper technique in 15 years theres probaly a reason for it.

and marcus maidana will show you that once he again when he steps up in competition as throwing straight punches is something that he in all likelihood is not comfortable with nor generates the same amount of power.

if you played or followed basketball you would know what im referring to. guys enter the nba(especailly shooting guards) and will have a great first year. but then they(other players) break down the tape in the second year and find out that player x can only shoot 36 percent going to his left and 65 percent going to his right. or he can only create of the dribble going to his right and not his left. players will game-plan around their limitations and then player x is no longer successful at the professional level.

but put him on a playground in a pick-up game and then he looks all-pro again.

no diffference between marcus maidana and angel martinez.

you dont believe me, just ask anyone here if the angel martinez fight, a guy coming off three ko's in his last four and just four months removed from a ko loss, means anything in handicapping the next maidana fight.

and the 21-year-old martinez probably didnt even get paid for this fight. a flight, room and board with his novia and all expenses paid to beautiful buenos aires was probably all the poor, indigant mexican kid received for his ability to make marcus maidana look like a new and improved fighter that throws straighter punches.

 

This is the end of Paulie being a "world" champ, but props to him for taking the fight.

I'm interested in seeing if Maidana can get the ko :bbb That or if the unexpected happens, and Paulie gets the ko

 

Malignaggi deserved the easy fight against a big name opponent but I'm happy Shane is saving himself from damage. I hope Malignaggi does well.

 

You realize Paulie has one hell of a beard don't you? Maidana is no world beater and he will have to work his ass off getting inside. This could be a very close fight.

 

Maidana is better than Cano... We all saw Paulie get battered by Cano's pressure! He's ****ed against Marcos... Understand that newb! :hat

 

He had one hell of a beard seven years ago. It's had a lot of fissures put in it since then...bombs from the likes of Cotto, Hatton and Khan have reduced his shields considerably. Hell, even the wars with relatively light-hitting Diaz probably took a bit away from his resistance.

He's now 32, with less starch in his legs, and was hurt by Cano.

 

I agree with you Rummy! I think a past prime Shane Mosley still has the power to hurt Malignaggi and stop him. Shane is much bigger than Paulie..

 

Damn, I wanted Mosley to make a come back. I think this would have been a good statement fight for him. He would have put hands on Malignaggi. Oh well
