This man led Wilder to ruins. Every big fight Wilder has had under him has been defeat after defeat. Lost to Fury 3x, Parker and Zhang. He beat Helenus, but that’s to be expected as he’s not top tier material unlike the others.

I wouldn’t say Wilder is just that bad, but rather Scott is either a horrible trainer or is just a horrible match for Wilder.

Wilder was always in ruins, with a career stalled fighting the Szpilkas and Duhaupas-es of the world.

But yeah, Malik is an awful traininer, and he seems to have ruined whatever Gerald Washington had going, too.

Can't judge him too much. You can't get through that thick head of Wilder. Not even Mark Breland who had very good skills could him teach ****.

Agreed. Stifled Wilders natural abilities and tried to make him something he’s not… but Fury and age probably have a part to play as well.

    Who have you trained ?

    Whats your Pro record ?

I bet you don't know how to wrap hands

Once the bell rings its the Fighter not the Trainer.....................otherwise, for example, WK and Lewis would have had never those embarrassing losses vs genuine Palookas.despite having excellent trainers in their corner.

I don´t think he is technically all that bad. Plus he is working with damaged goods now.
The real problem is that he is a delusional yes man. But he can implement tactics and change things up, as evident in the third Wilder vs Fury fight.

A trainer can only do so much.

Here's a great piece by Freddie Roach talking about the limits of what even the greatest trainers can do.

Freddie Roach's Experience As A Boxer Convinced Him that Even the Best Coaches Can Do Only So Much

On the nigh of June 14, Freddie Roach was in Ruslan Provodnikov's dressing room long before the fighter arrive for his WBO 140-pound title defense against Chris Algieri.

"Id rather be here than in the hotel," said Roach, a six-time Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year. "Hotel rooms bore me. Gyms and dressing rooms, I like."

When roach is at home in California, he opens the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood five days a week at 7 a.m. and closes it 13 hours later. "There are times when I'm tired," he said. "But training fighters is like fighting. If start cutting corners, it's time to quit."

The conversation turned to the relationship between trainers and fighters. "The fighter makes the trainer more than the other way around," Roach said.

To prove his point, he cited two incidents.

"I was training in Las Vegas getting ready to fight Tommy Cordova," Roach said. "Eddie Futch was my trainer and Ray Arcel came to visit. Eddie and Ray were friends. Eddie told me stories about Ray for years and said that Ray was a great trainer. You had to be special for Eddie to talk about you like that."

"Ray spent a whole week in the gym with Eddie and me," Roach continued. "Then, the night of the fight (June 12, 19840, he worked my corner with Eddie. I was getting close to the end as a fighter by then. I lost a 12-round decision. All I could say afterward was, 'I'm sorry.

"It was an honor to have the two of you in my corner.'"

    And the other occasion?

"It was right after I quit boxing,"

Roach said. "Angelo Dundee had a fighter named Cubanito Perez, who was getting ready to fight Meldrick Taylor. Angelo was too busy to work with him. I was working as a telemarketer and was broke at the time, and Eddie suggested to Angelo that I train Perez. The fight was in Atlantic City (on July 11, 1987). Angelo was the chief second.

You had Angelo Dundee, Eddie Futch and me in the corner. And Perez lost every round.

"At the end of the day, it's about the fighter, not the trainer," Roach said. Then he added wistfully, "I'd trade all my Trainer of the Year awards and every dollar I've made as a trainer if I could have won a championship belt."

Agreed. Tbf to malik unless wilder gets another decent win in the bag it could be up for debate weather wilders just damaged goods or not. But for me maliks the big problem in wilders comebacks.

Tried to make him think too much. The information itself isnt bad its the not knowing that making wilder think too much is a bad move. Or his slightly limited ability cant pull off what hes wanting him to do. Pretty much shows even tho malik has a knowledge of the game....he doesnt really know what hes doing.

The big difference between a good coach and a bad one imo. A lot of the time the bad coach actually has more knowledge that the good one....he just doesnt have a clue in how and when to use it usually to the fighters detriment.

Breland knew what he was doing. Wilder was a difficult night for most based on basic tactics he was pretty good at. Move back when the opponent comes forward to attack. Edge in to get a jab off or the right hand after the opponents reset etc.

It worked well for wilder because of his very good attributes and lack of real ability. Maliks trying to get him to do what wilder will never be able to do. A decent coach would know that.

Fury getting up in round 12 is what ruined Wilder, like a man possessed.

Wilder should fight a C-level HW before I make my conclusion. If he can't knock out his usual Duhaupas, szpilkas and Helenius, then I will accept the fact that the problem is with MS.

Scott took on a 36 old who had just been owned and KOed inside 7 rounds and had the disadvantage of having started boxing late as well. As we know, Wilder isn't a good listener either.

Not sure how much better anyone else would have gone with Wilder than Scott has. Wilder is shot to sh-t now anyway.
