This is a decent step up for Malik Scott. What do you guys think of this up and comer? It's about god damn time.
Scott's got good skills, a deep amateur background and he's full of confidence. With that said, it's really not in his personality to go for KO's or push the action so he often leaves things in the judges hands when he probably shouldn't. This can be very dangerous when you're fighting in someone else's backyard. Toupou is game, has good strength and he can bang but he isn't in Malik Scott's zip code skill wise...nor has he fought anyone with Scott's skillset. Malik should win but as I mentioned before, he's not comfortable imposing his will on his opponent so anything can happen.
well I didnt know much about Malik but thanks for the info. I dont like fighters who dont feel urgency. I think you have to either be going for the KO or beating a guy every round widely on points. Not sure. This fight could be interesting.
Very sound technically and has gotten more aggressive since his comeback in Feb., but he's still more comfortable working behind the jab and taking what his opponent gives him.
finally some up and coming prospects fighting each other, though a 34-year old Malik Scott is hardly a prospect
True. Scott is a better level opponent than Tupou has been fighting recently and will really test him.
I really don't think Scott is supposed to be a test for Tupou. It looks more and more like a showcase fight for Malik than anything else...
This is the kind of fight both need to get into the top 20. It's really a win win, as both the winner and the loser should have less problems getting bigger fights after this. But for the winner, it obviously thrusts him right into contention. Would love to see Scott win this, then get a fight with Solis or Fury and then a title shot should he win consecutive fights over top 40s.:think
