Malik is a YES man, but he's a YES man that knows he's manipulating Wilder into doing what he wants by being a YES man. He's gassing him up & making him believe that he knows it all & is just there to remind him, but deep down he knows he's teaching Wilder new things.

Scuba Scott is out of his depth and his man is in deep water. Luckily he is a fully certified diving expert.

That's pandering to Wilder's ego, but it's also a sop to his fanbase and a way of keeping Jay Deas onside.

Scott was already a part of the team, he can't very well say 'no-one ever taught Wilder how to jab/counter/move/box on back foot etc etc because the next question is why didn't you or Jay all the time you've been helping train him. It would also invite a withering response from Mark Breland who would obviously have tried to instill all those skills and more in Wilder over the years.

Then his fanbase who were sold the idea of Wilder as an elite fighter may start asking just who those ten defences were against if the champ was actually unable to show the fundamentals of boxing during his reign. Well that wouldn't do either.

So the only line that Scott can follow is that Wilder had all the skills and shots but just wasn't using them for... reasons... Hence Scott simply has to bring them out of him. It's wordplay, but I am interested to see come Sunday morning just what, if any, changes Scott has managed to bring off. The smart money is Wilder's too old to change his spots, but time will tell.

He's just trying to boost Wilder's confidence, which appears to be shattered. He's not going to remake a late 30s fighter at this point, so no reason to attempt it, just a few mechanical tweaks and a renewed sense of self-belief.

Prolly won't work, but people are going to gash Scott if things don't go well and he probably won't deserve it. Only so much he can do.

I'm glad someone brought that up... Such an obvious dive I remember seeing it live and thinking how can they get away with that?

So blatant. And I didn't know at the time they were buddies and Wilder was just getting his friend a paycheck, but it makes perfect sense now.

Wilder is 35 years old, what could Scott actually teach him? seriously what?

I think trying to teach Wilder new things is pointless at this stage, Scott is there to get Wilder in shape, do the basics, and yeah basically be a cheerleader and most importantly to get Wilder to do exactly what he needs to do and that's throw right hands.

If Scott and Wilder came out and said "yeah we have changed everything, you will see a completely different fighter" then that would be a worry.

Wilder has been out (like Fury) for nearly 2 years, he just needs to throw right hands, keep throwing them, don't be discouraged if things are not going well, just keep throwing right hands because that's all he has got.

And that's all Scott can do, just get Wilder to throw big shots...

If Fury wins this and then goes on to beat Usyk and AJ then I think he should hire Jay Deas and Kevin Barry for his farewell fight. That would be sublime tv.

    Very awkward...

So basically he says Michelle here if Deontay dies on Sunday its "ok"...simply because he wants it.

If he is serious he will NEVER throw in the towel...this means Wilder could end like Gerald McClellan (crippled by Nigel Benn), Eduard Gutknecht (crippled by by George Grooves) or even Patrick Day.

Conman in to stroke Wilder's ego. Any explanation he gives about his training methods, he does in a shaky voice and sounds like he doesn't even believe it himself. His fight with Wilder was a disgrace too. He either took a dive or was too scared to fight after the Wilder right hand clearly didn't land at all, all gloves. Either way, it's bad and how can a man like that get you to the top. I think Sugar Hill would've been the perfect trainer for Wilder because he's all about the 1-2 Kronk style that Tommy Hearns used. Wilder needed some fine tuning, more output, and some inside leverage work, not a whole rebuild.

Scuba Scott can certainly give Wilder tips on going down artistically if the going gets tough.

Wilder is mentally beaten you can see that from the build up and to have a mentally weak career loser like Scuba Scott advising you and working with you is a bad decision.
