Hell yes. What McGirt did was outrageous, and that some fans are cheering this bull**** is mind-boogling. Fights should be allowed to go to their natural conclusion, just like it was in the old days. Fans were alot tougher then, and they understood what the sport of boxing was about.

 

surely with your knowledge of punching power and chins you know paulie couldn't have done **** to buddy even with no gloves on.

 

Buddy probably shouldn't have stopped it, but at the same time, Paulie wasn't showing any fire at all to try and make a contest of it. He put up a limp-wristed effort and it ended in a limp-wristed way.

As for McGirt not liking it if his corner stopped his fight with Whitaker, well, his corner did stop his fight with Taylor and in the 12th round at that. I thought Buddy could have heard the final bell there, but Al Certo pulled the plug on him.

I'm sure Buddy was disappointed with that result too, but looking back on it years after in the cold light of day, he probably thinks Al did the right thing in being precautious, and Buddy did likewise with Paulie.

Paulie will live to fight another day.

Paulie was getting beat, but he wasn't getting destroyed. As a former fighter, McGirt should've known better than to stop that fight. Losing by TKO rather than UD really hurts Mallinaggi's career.

Keep an eye out, McGirt might end up receiving some favors down the road from Golden Boy as a result of that stoppage.
