Frank Maloney believes he can get Ajose Olusegun an eliminator for Junior Witter's old WBC light welterweight crown, current held by Timothy Bradley. Kentish Town-based Nigerian fighter Olusegun is current ranked number three by the governing body, one place below Witter. Maloney believes if he can arrange a bout with Japan's Sirimongkol Singwancha, who is number 11 with the WBC, the governing body will sanction the fight as an eliminator. "We nearly got Singwancha over in the summer, but now the fight can be made," Maloney said. "I will be going to the WBC convention in China in November and I'm confident they will sanction the fight as an eliminator. "Ajose will be kept busy and he could even appear on the Ricky Hatton bill in November." Olusegun will next fight on the undercard of Ian Napa's challenge for Carmelo Ballone's European title. Bradley beat Witter on a split decision to win the belt in May and defended his title by outpointing Edner Cherry earlier this month. http://www.setantasports.com/en/Spo...cets/sport-space/great-britain-locale/boxing/
Firstly this is great news. But...Ajose needs about 4/5 fights biuld up against better and better opposition. The lad has not even fought the best domestic talent so such a jump up could be a real disaster. However at his age and without hope of building up a fan base and without meaningful fights he probably does need a straight eliminator and then just to hope he is actually good enough.
if olusegun can't get a decent fight soon he should seriously consider relocating to the states. i know he is an avoided (high risk low reward) fighter, but he's already had way too many pointless stay-busy fights which he is clearly having trouble getting motivated for.
I agree. I used to defend Olusegun here cos I thought he was a talented fighter & I was a good friend of Olu. But when Olu said hamed would destroy Scotty, I lost all respect for him & his fighter. Thats how I roll. Everyone knows I dont like people who diss scottish fighters. Therefore, the quicker Olusegun ****s off to America & I never need to hear of his name again, the better. Olu & Olusegun, goodbye & good riddance:hi:
Dunky apologies I was not dissing Harrison who is and was a good champion. In the matchup with Naz good fighter that Harrison is I think to beat Hamed you need to have special effects ala an Azumah Nelson, Barrera etc. Scott Harrison is a big featherweight but you need more to beat Naz. Personally I prefer Harrison as a man or a personality but I call fights the way I see them and in this matchup I think Hamed would have won though I would be happy to be proven wrong. Dunky I love Scotland and the Scots. Ajose and I will never let you down and we take our adoption by the Scots seriously. My regards to you, Top Dog and the others.
Witter would destroy Olusegun - as long as he doesn't hand half the fight on a plate. He looked devastating against Harris, but even then only fought half the ****ing time - should have had him out in four at the most.
Dunky, I have to say I don't like this clique that some people seem to have on here, i.e. the "I'll defend your fighter as long as you stick up for mine" effect. People should be free to say what they think about any fighter without fearing childish "I'm not your friend anymore" reprisals. I have agreed with Flint Island on some non-Enzo Mac issues (I know, it's hard to believe but he does debate them occasionally), doesn't mean I can't state that his Enzo threads are nonsense! I happen to find it hard to see how Harrison would have a chance against Hamed, his skillset is just totally wrong against someone with what the Prince brings. Saying so is not dissing (which would be something like "Harrison is a useless alcoholic bum who should never set foot in a ring again"), simply a valid view based on nothing but the sport of boxing. Which is as it should be.
I wish him all the best Olu, good talent, and deserves a shot at the best. Think he would hold his own against Bradley, but the guy is good. Do better against Witter I feel, Junior isnt the fighter he once was, even if he keeps on saying he is. Dunkys a good pal of mine, but he's Scott Harrison daft that boy If you asked him who would win in a fight between Scott and Tyson, Dunky would back Scott up to the hilt, that's just the way he is.:good You'll probably find if the fight between Ajose and one of the big boys goes ahead, Dunky will back your man. Am I right Dunky???:hey :hey
Even an unmotivated Witter Ko's him. Bradley fights a little like Wright going forward with pressure which troubled Olusegan.
I seriously doubt it and I no for a fact Witter does not share your opinion. Harris is a far cry from Ajose Olusegun. Don't forget Harris had already been stopped by Carlos Maussa. Personally while I think it was one of Witter's better performances Harris looked a spent force.
