Maloney and Sky have enjoyed a successful working partnership for nearly 20 years and the new deal starts in September. All future Maloney shows will be screened live on Saturday nights and he said: I am delighted to continue my relationship with Sky. They have a top class boxing team from top to bottom and you would go a long way to find a more professional bunch. It is a massive boost for boxing in general that they have decided to move our sport from Friday to Saturday and proves how committed they are. 8-11 would be nicer But 3 hours is 3 hours, whatever the time. Hopefully that is the regular length of the shows, but some of Maloney's recent shows would have dragged like **** if they were that long.
This is what makes me uneasy - Sky should have the promoters bidding for TV dates on an individual event by event basis. Anyway - Saturday is preferable to Friday so it's a step in the right direction. They can have the boxing straight after Super League finishes at 8, with the undercard on first followed by the main event, rather than the main event, and bits and pieces of the undercard mixed with talking.
Well that's good. Any further info you can divulge? Hopefully less Commonwealth title fights and young prospects being put in with complete and utter no-hopers.
From what I can gather each promoter has been given a certain amount of dates guranteed- the remainer will have to be 'bidded' for. :good
Ok..... so is there a criteria for a show being televised? Is it the (currently failing) ''there must be a title fight'' or are shows being vetted on their own merit? I'm sure most people agree that quite often a non-title ten rounder cross roads fight (basically Gavin vs Woodhouse if you like ignoring the silly title) is better than, say Daws vs Williams/Cook or whoever. One of the main things Sky need to sharpen up on is their promotions - who are they screening, why are they screening them, what comes afterward in event of win/loss etc - at the minute it just seems like they are screening for screening sake, a casual isn't really going to be grabbed by an FFN and become a fan of boxing.
Game of the day is at 8.25, then the interactive match choice starts at 10.15 and is repeated throughout the night. Hardly anyone I know watches FF though, one or two watch if their team is the game of the day shown in full. Most people would watch MOTD anyway.
yeh i only watch it on a weeknight when you can avoid the result. i imagine it will finish at 10:15 then.
This is so important there is a without the background and the building of a fanbase or at least a recognition of the fighters their past achievements and where this bout may take them its just any 2 blokes in a ring having a fight. Give the fights a bit of impetus by explaining their importance spending more time featuring the fighters on display
