"Mamby vs. Bramble." 1977 vs. '84 version..

I like Mamby to tie Bramble up and out box him for a close nod

 

Mamby doesn't have the accomplishments to go to the HOF.

 

Pretty fun match-up. I pick Mamby to just edge it out

 

Am I alone in thinking Bramble would nick this?

A key for me is contained within Mamby UD 15 Termite Watkins. On the inside, Saoul's handspeed made the difference. A peak Duran could outhustle Mamby on the inside, but Ras-I was no Duran. Beyond that, Sweet Saoul's defensive skills would also play a significant role. I like both individuals a great deal.

 

I'll go with Bramble-too strong for Mamby and in his prime could switch from lefty to righty.Close bout either way you look at it.
Remember when Bramble whipped Oba Carrs ass and got robbed?

 

:yep And this was when Bramble was far past his best, he was already a journeyman by this time,he was robbed in what would have been his last big win. He won a few here and there but was just a steppingstone after this. Same with Mamby i believe he fought into his early 50s,many of his losses early on were cause he was matched so tough.. Kind of like so many of the old timers,when they fought anyone anywher anytime.
Brambles prime weight was lightweight and Mambys Jr welter. At Brambles best he was in everybodys PFP list, where as Mamby never was, however stylistaclly he could be hell for anyone and was good boxer,good defense,and awesome chin but his power wasnt all that. In Brambles prime i think Id take him to outhustle Mamby but Mamby would give Bramble fits at times too. Bramble by Close but convincing decision.

It's a legs bout all the way and Bramble needs a guy that stands in front of him, not a guy retreating and turning him.

I didn't buy into Crawley the way some people do. And I never ever thought much of Bramble's footwork. Not even adequate, to me anyway. His best game was from the shoulders up and not the legs down. I think Mamby is smart enough to use skills from the waist down.
