I've never heard of this term before until boxers and pundits keep barking on about it on sky.

Barker said after the hope fight ' I'm just getting my man power' (he's 31)

So is it scientifically proven you get more powerful when you become a man (not 18-21)

They used to call it "getting your man bones". Sounds pretty dodgy thinking about it!

Man strength is a term ive heard fairly common in boxing. Like a young fighter in his late teens/early 20's with a wiry build, who fills out into his body and gains a bit of extra strength and physicality. Like with someone like Chavez jr, as little as 3 or 4 years ago he was a slight little *******, just look at the bullish strength and build he has now.

Exactly, Chave Jr went from going life or death with Oisin ***an(good little scrap btw), to getting his "Man Power" and overpowering Andy Lee

What SoK says really. Physically maturing. It normally happens around 24 but in sport and a sport like Boxing it tends to happen when you get into prime years and have good training habits and program like Barker now has.

The term gets used all of the time in amateur boxing but I have never really heard it in the pros. It is usually a term used when you have 17 or 18 year old lad in their first or second season as a senior, who maybe won 5 or 6 national junior titles, if they lose to an experienced guy who is 5 or 6 years older people usually say he was "out manned" or if you are protecting a national junior champion in their first two seasons as a senior you might say I'm just entering him in the CYP's he hasn't got his "man strength" or his "man power" yet.

I've never really heard anyone say this in pro boxing especially not Barker's age but he knows better than me.

Yeah he really has come on has Chavez Jr. Hear he loves fighting in Texas; the kind of place where he could light up a big one between rounds and take his mates for a **** with him after the fight.

I would always call it "Man Strentgh". I just naturally got bigger and sustained weight without even working out much more at 20 and 26. Had to buy all new clothes as nothing fit anymore.
