Mayweather vs. Hatton sold out in under an hour just 6 months ago. It's more than just the economy. There simply wasn't a lot of buzz for this fight. Pretty much everyone assumed that Pac was going to win, and Diaz has no fanbase. You have to provide people with a quality product if you want them to buy it.

There should be much more buzz for the Cotto-Margarito fight. A 24/7 series or similar, more ads, billboards, conferences, anything. The better fights don't get coverage. Vazquez-Marquez had barely any advertising compared to Mayweather-De La Hoya.

Well, maybe at the first Barrera fight but not now. He may have some lapses but his English has vastly improved since then.

Pavlik/Taylor 2 didn't sell out either and had some pretty crappy buys. That fight was way more competitve and hyped. I think Vegas is just overpopulated with fights nowadays.

I wouldn't shell out that kind of scratch for a seat at the last supper, let alone a boxing match.

IIRC Pavlik and Taylor did great TV numbers in their first fight.

I agree with boxing needing good fights on TV...but I think Vegas is oversaturated.

Gas has reached over $4/g and its costing more to fly as well ... you can blame the economy for that outcome.
