It's HBO policy biting them and everyone else in the ass. Pay double what network TV offers for television rights just so you have nothing left for the rest of the year. That knocks off several fights which would offer continuity towards your PPV broadcasts. Not only that but it further alienates the joe casual from the major fights which essentially bring in new fans to the sport. It's all HBO/SHowtime's fault. Private stations should be banned from bidding on televised sporting events.
If you were smart enough, you should have cashed out on this and bet big on Pacquiao. If you just did it, then congrats.
four main reasons imo 1) Pac is Asian. 2) Its a lower weight division. 3) Diaz is not a name fighter. 4) Not a competitive fight.
It was pretty evident when the numbers for JMM/PAC2 came out that Pac needs JMM more than most here were willing to admit. Hopefully the smaller than expected turnout for Pac/diaz will convince Arum that JMM/Pac3 is the fight that needs to be made. Of course with Casamayor and Valero in the mix now, the potential for an upset will make the trilogy a slim possibility!
