As far as I know, the 1969 bout against Yoshiaki Numata has never before been available on Youtube or anywhere else on the net.

Ramos is a bit of a blind spot for me and I've been watching footage of the man lately trying to educate myself about his era.

Hope at least a few people out there get a kick out of the footage. Enjoy!

You want to make certain you see Mando Ramos vs Sugar Ramos. I also like the fight with Frankie Crawford.

    Wow
Mando was a comet who burned out fast. Partying and drug abuse. But what a fighter that young man was for a few yrs. Very exciting entertaining fighter he was. I was very interested in him a few yrs back. If I'm not mistaken his trainer was Jackie McCoy and he said Mando was the best natural fighter he ever had.
Another home run my man!! I'll enjoy watching these. Underrated fighter in my book

Great stuff mate, thanks for posting! Mando was a very talented boxer-puncher offensively who had all the punches and really put them together with excellent technique. Very tall too, able to manoeuvre guys around with educated footwork and had really good power, which he unfortunately fell in love with a bit. He loved a scrap too much though and wasn't hard to hit. Like robert says, he was an animal with the grog and white powder and more or less didn't train from the time he hit the world scene, which was a testimony to his natural ability. I rewatched the Teo Cruz rematch not too long ago, very good fight as I recall (Teo Cruz was a very, very good fighter himself). Excellent scalp for such a young guy after he'd been outhustled first time out.

I remember Laguna really cutting him up and beating him to the punch with straight lashing shots in an excellent fight that I believe he was the bookies favourite to win.

Incredible to think that he was more or less finished before he was 24, circa the Carmona fight.

He's up there with the likes of Cuevas & Benitez in fighters who shone exceptionally brightly but burned out just as alarmingly quick.

Young Mando Ramos...genuine sex symbol/heart throb...in a rematch with Carlos Teo Cruz.
They actually showed highlights of this on the 6:00 sports news...an almost unheard of thing for anything less than a heavyweight bout back then.
Here's Mando getting revenge by an 11th round tko.

Is this the young man who won the title and fought high on a regular basis?

The bright you shine the faster you burn out... or so they say.

How are you doing today, RC? Anything particularly interesting going on?

Did seeing unearthed & rare footage of Ramos with him looking like a real destroyer to boot against a tough obscure Japanese brighten your day?

Ramos, I think I've read, after that horrific beating he took from Chango Carmona, started going downhill fast...and was found often sleeping in his car. Soooo sad...because he was a good hearted man really...I think he tried to start up some kind of pension plan for boxers. Ramos himself regrouped and got a job, and became ironically enough, a "father figure" for quite a few young boxers. I'll delve in to that more and post something later on it.
