Manila Frazier? Ugh, that's an ugly pick. Why'd you take a version of Frazier that got bombed by George already? And older to boot! Seriously. George himself said he would lose to a prime version of Frazier. I know some posters on here like to argue Foreman said that in jest, but they aren't George Foreman. Foreman said it, they didn't and he didn't give a disclaimer before or after. He said he'd lose to a prime version of Smokin' Joe and I believe the guy.
Foreman was actually pretty awesome in 1991 at 257 trained pounds......... He only lost to prime Holy on points............ Holy was too spry and fast for the strong but slow as an Ox Foreman.......... Foreman was lethal in 1991, if he nailed you....... Foreman was legit....... YES! '91 Foreman still KO's '75 Frazier..........:deal MR.BILL:bbb
I don't doubt FOTC Joe Frazier is a much tougher fight for Foreman, but do you know when/where he said this? The closest I've heard to that is when he said in Facing Ali that the Frazier fight "wouldn't have ended like that" or something to that effect. To me, that's not necessarily a declaration that Foreman thought he would have lost. To me, that's Foreman admitting that Joe was past-prime and that was what allowed him to take him out so quickly and in such dominating fashion. Foreman was afraid of Frazier, yes, but I thought his point was that he still would have won, it just might have taken him 5 rounds like it did the second time, or something similar. I don't think Manila Frazier would have put a much better fight. He might have lasted longer, but I doubt Foreman was anywhere close to gassing or being stunned in that second fight.
No he wasn't. How many times do you need to be shown how baseless this claim is, yet you still just ignore the facts and keep repeating it?
I can't stand opinions which rate Foreman over Liston. Very Irritating. Are you one of those people? I think it is baseless, especially when h2h is taken into consideration. Liston was a much more well rounded, more scientific version of George Foreman, in my view.
Unless two fighters have actually fought, there is no H2H comparison. Foreman had the bigger wins and the more successful career overall. Beyond that is just unsubstantiated speculation. Even this is just speculation, as Liston never proved his tools were good enough to do what Foreman did to a Frazier-level fighter.
"Can't stand" someone else's opinion ? "Very irritating" when someone doesn't agree with you. What are you, 14 ? Try growing up instead of having temper tantrums ! That or go play w Princess !
Despite Manila being the greatest fight in history, that version of Frazier would get Hulk smashed by the version from Ali-Frazier I. '70 Frazier was in even better shape and sharper overall. With that said, neither version matched up well with a young Foreman although '70 Frazier would take 2-3 out of 10...IMO.
Yes, he said it in "Facing Ali" but I've got a few other sources in which he hints towards Joe's chances in a fight against him. I'd take the 1971 version of Frazier because look at Young Foreman's mentality. When Ali took his best, he was done. The Frazier that fought Foreman was nowhere near the Frazier that fought Ali in '71. Foreman was always stunned Ali's ability to take a punch and he saw something like that in Frazier. However, this Frazier wasn't half as focused when he went up against Foreman the first time around. Then for Foreman-Frazier II Ol' Joe summoned up his focus, looks much better, but he was too old by this time. I'm convinced that a focused 1971 Joe wears down Foreman in a fight that would be nearly as epic as Foreman v. Lyle. His "keep coming" style would be completely reinforced and scare Foreman after Joe just keeps getting up to meet his foe. However, to answer the question posed by the thread. I'd be foolish to even put the "Manilla Frazier" in with a 1975 Foreman. He'd get thrashed, and probably die in the ring. He was an old man bent on blasting his nemesis and dialed in on Ali. That Manilla Joe was perfect for a fight with an Old Ali, but a 1975 Foreman? Get serious. No country for old Fraziers. Careful, someone might consider this a waste of time: Where'd I get the idea for this fight? Here's one of the sources outside of the research I've done. Well, I was playing Fight Night Round 4 with my friend. We are literally matched in our skills to fight and he's a diehard Foreman fan and I love to pick Frazier in the heavyweights (cause everyone and their mom just takes Ali or Tyson). We literally fight like the real life boxers, from my friend watching so many George fights and me...well...I watch anything Philly. The first five rounds I spent constantly tasting the canvas. He was charging like a Young Foreman and pummeling me with every punch and keeping at distance with that telephone poll jab. Finally, in the 6th round Foreman begins to tire and I get a little gutsy and go for the body. I keep digging hooks into both sides of his body and "come up for air" with an uppercut to the head. At this point I was knocked down 1 time in each of those first 5 rounds. Usually the game doesn't let you continue after 5 KDs, so I'm trying my damnedest to not get dropped one last time. Then at the end of the 6th he stuns me with a blasting right hand and Joe's in "stun mode" and just as he comes in for the killing blow I unleash a haymaker left hook and drop Foreman in the 6th. He gets up easily at the count of 2 and walks right back over to me to try to force me into a corner, but with 16 seconds left in the 6th I land a combo that catches him perfect when I doubled up a left hook from the body to the head and I drop him one more time in the 6th. This time my friend took an 8 count and exhausted the round keeping me far away. By the time I was out for the 7th, I was renewed and I went back to digging at the body and countering when he stopped throwing straight punches. The fight went on like this, till about the 13th round where we were totally spent. We kept stunning each other back and forth, but we weren't capable to KO the other guy. Rounds 13 & 14 I felt like my heart was going to explode, because winning those rounds meant the lead in my mind (I was right, 14 put me over the top on all cards). Finally in the 15th my friend knew Foreman needed a KO and he tried his hardest, but that left him open and I bombed forward with a 4 hook combo (right body hook, left body hook, right head hook, left head hook) and dropped the beast for good in the final round. That fight has been stuck in my head (and even though it was on a console system) I felt that's how a prime Frazier would manage a Young Foreman. Not nearly as dramatic, but I feel Joe would go through Hell to get the victory leaving Foreman as confused as when he lost to Ali or Young. It's just that instead of going up against a tricky fighter, he's going up against a rock with a will to never erode.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. Liston would nail Foreman to the jab, shrug off Georges shots and tire him out and wipe him out. If Lyle puts him down, Liston does the same and keeps him there.
