Does Chris Mannix even like boxing? I understand wanting refs to stop fights if guys are taking too much punishment but it seems as soon as someone is in rocked or catches a good shot Mannix wants the ref to step in and end the fight as quickly as possible. It's a real annoyance of when watching DAZN.
Commentators whine WAY too much for refs to stop fights and most modern refs step in too early too. Even worse, some of today's sissified boxing fans also support this BS. Back in the day, refs let the fighters decide the outcome and commentators and fans were rightly outraged at quick stoppages, which were far less frequent.
They should fight until one of them dies. What a ******! You look like so brave in the internet for a guy who is so scared of dying, pollavieja.
Makes one wonder how some of these commentators got to be considered experts. Boxing is not for the faint of heart.
For the record, in my opinion, Chris Mannix is a total wanker. Great post, fights these days on a whole are stopped too early. There are of course exceptions, like the Ritson fight couple weeks back. It's impossible for fighters not to be hurt in boxing, as a fan, own it or **** off.
I wonder why boxing is so over represented when it comes to poor announcers? Bradley and Ward have begun to grow on me but that other guy with his yelling is a drag. I like Al Bernstein but despise Max Kellermen
I agree. I feel like there are way too many early stoppages these days (still can't believe the soto vs takayama stoppage recently. There's an art to stopping fights and the safety of the fighters is very important, but they have to give these fighters the benefit of the doubt. At the very least let the fighter and corner know "if I don't see something this round I'm stopping it"
Some spectators can't comprehend that boxers are choosing to sacrifice their golden years to live fast in their youth. Commentators are not immune from thinking this way.
The most important thing is that Mannix sucks and is everything wrong with the world. You can see it in his eyes. He knows he's a fraud and wants to be exposed and fired so he can stop lying to everyone. A secondary point is that a lot of completely futile beat downs are allowed to go way too long and this enables overly cautious matchmaking. If they want to get a guy rounds, then find someone good enough to go rounds rather than someone tough enough. This in turn relates to the problem of insufficient amateur backgrounds in the Western Hemisphere. At the high level fights are often stopped short when the moment gets too big for a ref and they feel the need to make a safe decision (JCC vs Taylor is an example of this). A short stoppage is forgivable (to me) if it's decisive and consistent, but usually it's panicky and/or done in a way that one or both combatants don't understand what's happening so they get hit extra times.
