Cotto going into full retreat kind of broke Manny's concentration. I don't think it was even as much "technical flaws" as just feeling the air going out of the fight and losing some of his intensity. And then when it wasn't stopped after nine, he kind of kept looking at Bayless like "do we really have to do this?"

I don't think the second half of that fight really offers much gauge for how Manny would or wouldn't "deal" with Floyd's movement. The circumstances were totally different.

I'm not convinced. When he was rope-a-doping, and covering up on the ropes, that's one thing, he was drawing Cotto in, testing his power - but to repeatedly get whacked on the side of the head while they were engaging and while he was displaying little of his trade mark bobbing - I don't think this was a tactic - I'd be surprised if any boxer sets out to let the other guy whack him on the head to prove a point.

Yeah, Cotto was always going to connect because the guy is an elite boxer, but most of Manny's sideways jigging and bobbing just wasn't there during the fight.

Cotto's punches hurt him. It slowed him down. Game plan wasn't working so he threw it out and just did what he does best. Use his power, use his quickness.

Well first couple of rounds he didn't exactly stick to game plan. I think he
found out on the ropes he could take Cotto's punches and then threw
caution out of the window a little bit when fighting Cotto toe to toe. If he
really wanted to not get hit, I'm sure he would have gotten hit much less. He
just figured he could take Cotto's punches and took a little bit of risk, to get
his offense in more. I like that in Pac, he has guts-a-plenty.

    Ha! OK. point taken.

But in the Cotto fight, Pac wasn't exactly standing there asking to be hit time after time. Cotto was just catching him.

In case you don't know, Cotto is not the weight drained Hoya or the "shot" Hatton. Cotto is an elite welter who can bang and hit with good accuracy. Are you expecting Pac to do a Floyd and be a slick defensive fighter?

Before the fight, did you predict Pac to potshot his way to victory?

He's never had a great defense. Don't know why people are surprised he got hit in this fight.

i'm not disputing that. I'll put it another for ya: his defence was worse than normal.

Dude, it's constructive criticism. A discussion, if you like, on a forum.

Of course he got hit. Cotto is no bum...the fact that he got hit so much, and still kicked some ass is the reason why he deserves so much credit for this win. Pacquiao has never been known for his defense...besides, he got hit, but I wouldn't say he got hit "too many times". He got about as any marginally good defensive fighter against Cotto would have.
