Highly doubt this will happen. If so, terrible move. He doesn't really have enough options down there.
This won't happen. If he were going to, he would have done it for Algieri and tried to scoop up his title...
What would be his goal at JWW? Try to win a title from Jessie freakin' Vargas (who I have grown to like recently, actually) and then unify with the winner of an Algieri/Provodnikov rematch or what? I don't see a short term or long term benefit to this other than lesser opposition than the currently deep WW division. Really going to try to drag up Crawford or Mikey? Those guys have never fought a contender at the weight. And while they will have the chance to in the interim, I don't see that doing anything whatsoever for Manny's legacy at this point (unless they somehow prove their worth, but the opponents aren't even there at JWW to really even do that as of now; maybe Postol for Garcia's titles once he vacates them?).
Also, im not 100% sure he can make 140 comfortably anymore. Theres a clip of him in his camp getting on the scales at 155-ish. For a guy his age to cut that weight may be tough
It's a very interesting move....I think Manny's natural weight is jr welterweight and would be at his best, physically making the move.....however, there are a bunch of jr welterweight/welterweights out there that makes this move appealing. I like Garcia/Broner vs PAC.....Crawford is promising and bound to be on the move up to the jr welterweight division so that's a possibility. I think if PAC decides to make the move it will create interest at 140 and more fighters will fight in the division. The good thing about fighters like Manny and Floyd is that they are always around fighting weight and usually fighting a or two divisions higher than their natural weight class. It gives them flexibility regarding which division they fight.
A potential Provodnikov fight - Complete war . A potential Garcia fight - Swift will stick around @ 140 for a big payday against Manny . Crawford fight . Peterson fight - Don't you people always say Manny ducks slick , black fighters ? Matthysse fight - I have a feeling Roach wont allow Manny to get in there with Lucas Broner fight - Everyone will happily tune in to watch AB run his mouth to Manny and get absolutely wrecked by Manny come fight night . Postol Fight .
none of those fights are realistic since they are all with haymon. brook probably the only one. not sure if he is with haymon
when will you ****ers learn, that convicted briber bob arum lambasts haymon? Then has the cheek to hate chavez jnr, for standing up to him!!
Manny wont get nowhere near Thurman , he knows better than that . He not trying to take another nap in the ring again no time soon .
not a good move. show me a fighter in history that campaigned at a weight for several years successfully then dropped down one weight class and i will show u failure. dlh dawson byrd taylor is the only guy in recent history that i can recall. help me out...is there more? something else to consider....manny's success at 147 came because they were able to carefully select guys coming off tough losses and using the weight drain game. when all things were equal, manny looked less than stellar.
