Damn KG why are we wasting time arguing..lets talk about that avatar of yours...yes DLH and HOP are better
So next topic (this is a safe and good thread so far)... how do you guys rate Pac amongst his countrymen? I still hesitate to place him above Elorde given his accomplishments, but he is in the vicinity. Just not sure. :think
Yup definitely a more complete fighter then he was back then. But I think that it would matter less then you think. Morales still came at pac too quickly after he was done flurrying to be able to unlesh his counter left. His improved footwork would be the biggest difference between now and then. If he could flurry and step to the side before Morales had the chance to stick it too him then that would be a different story. But a guy with the height, chin, speed, foot work, and 74 inch reach like morales would always in my opinion be too much for a counter right hook. He'd just be on him too fast.
I already said I didn't think it was nuts to say he was the best Asian fighter ever. I just felt that Harada from the little I had seen and alot that I had read was better. I still feel that way, on both counts. Elorde also is part of the equation. Crossing eras is hard. Someone is going to point out how many weight classes Pacquiao has titles in. But it was harder to do that back then. It's not an equal comparison. In the modern era, Pacquiao is by far the best Asian boxer. I can't say for sure Pacquiao ISN'T the best Asian or Filipino fighter ever. His accomplishments cannot be overlooked.
lol.. a lot of topics have gone to **** with the senseless hate and **** talking.. Pacquiao did do what Elorde couldnt, givin' that it was against David Diaz.. But there's plenty of other fights at 135 that could be happening, even if he does up to 140.. It is close though right now.. Pacquiao has accomplished alot..
Yes I agree with you about the titles, its not comparable. Its the names on the resume that should count really. Pac has a stacked resume. Elorde has wins over Sandy Saddler and Ismael Laguna. Difficult.
If Pac has one more really significant win, I think he probably gets the nod. If he clears out 135lbs, its his title.
See, and I personally think Saddler was the boogeyman from his era. Meaning he was the scariest matchup for most fighters and one of the best fighters ever. Beating him at ALL is huge IMO.
Yes, and Ismael Laguna was by all accounts an excellent fighter. I have some video of him coming, but everyone says he was silky smooth, with an excellent jab and speed to top it off. Elorde isn't to be overlooked. Not to mention he was running Saddler close in their title fight before it was stopped on cuts (Saddler was rubbing his gloves into them to make them bleed more). Incredible boxer.
A win against Campbell or Casamayor can or even JMM again in which I think he would be way better condition than he was when he fought him at 130 and can beat him in a more convincing fashion..135 seems to suit well for Pac.. A win against Hatton would definitely put him on the top..
I personally think that Pac will go down as the best Asian fighter, just not quite yet. Diaz doesn't seal the deal for me. I would like to see him unify with the winner of Campbell/Guzman and/or fight the winner of Casa/JMM to seal the deal. Elorde still has his wins over Saddler, Laguna, multiple over Kosaka, etc. This is always a touchy subject, trying to say that a guy is more popular than another older icon that has gyms/buildings/streets named after him. I have heard that Pac is already the most popular Asian fighter ever (can be argued once again). I do think he is on track to become the most popular ever, and potentially the greatest ever, but lets not give him the title just yet IMO.
