Simple, he was testing the waters in his first fight at 175. It's not like he was moving up to cruiser or HW along the way.

He went up, instead of fighting a stiff like he did at 168 and getting criticism since he's held to higher standards than any other fighter, he went for one of the most popular fighters above MW.

If he ever decides to go back to LtHW I'm fairly certain he'll fight the best. It's in his nature.
