Possibly similar to the Marquez fights, without the knockdowns. Chavez by decision.

Chavez would probably be able to walk through Manny's offence. I don't think Manny's footspeed will be as big of a factor here as Chavez was an expert in cutting off the ring. I can't see Manny doing too much whilst he's in the corner all night. I could be wrong, but Prime LW Chavez wuld probably just walk through Manny, even if he's on boxer mode.

    Chavez TKO 9.

Chavez via late stoppage or decision this would be a excellent fight.

Pac does very well against come forward fighters (Hatton, Barrera), it's counter punchers that he has trouble with (Marquez...and Morales fought much of the fight off the back foot).

However, Pac has never fought a come forward fighter the calibre of Chavez, who was the best at cutting off the ring that I personally have ever seen.

I'll reserve judgment on this until Pacs career is finally over. The way Cotto approaches his fight with Pac could have some relevance in my pick.

    Good fight.

    Thanks.

Another thing to take into account is Chavez's fantastic right hand, which is supposedly 'the best punch against a southpaw'.

His goo head movement will allow him to slip Manny's jab by moving to his left (therefore avoiding the straight left that follows it) and sink his left hook in to the body.

Unless I see Pac take a ferocious beating to head and body from Cotto, therefore proving he can hold a shot at the higher weights, I'll just remember the distress Marquez got him into at 130 (the famous left-right combo which has Manny reeling is a good one) and assume that Manny has looked so dominant lately because his opponents weren't up to it. it's clear to see from his opponents mannerisms/attempts that they're clearly not in it (Diaz, Oscar) at all or have a style which suits Manny perfectly (Hatton) by having no defence and walking into everything. Therefore, I think its safe to assume that he would not look as spectacular to Prime Chavez, who beat Rosario at this weight, who had just as much one-shot power as Pac in all probability (certainly debatable though)

Chavez would not be like this. As people say, an ATG chin usually beats ATG power.

Chavez has this one in the bag.

Pacquiao by UD. Somewhere along the lines of 8-4 type decision.

Insane prediction, watch Ricky Hatton to see what happens. Now if you'd said his defense lets him slip and counter and he can take the occasional Pac bomb, then fair play.

However I see Pacquaio having a load in common with Meldrick Taylor but a lefty with more power albeit less skill. Barrera is also Chavez lite, incredibly similar and Pacquaio thrived on that style as we know. Pacquaio is also the superior specimen (as he is against everyone perhaps), more speed, faster footwork. Chavez is the better boxer, better defense and better shot slipper. However Chavez's jab and right isn't going to be good enough to time and offset the speed like Marquez could do

Stylistically it really favours Pacquaio because of this so I'm going with Pac UD

12 rounds I favor Pac, now 15 rounds we have a case where Chavez brutally can stop him

I don't usually post in non HW threads, but the amount of people picking Pac here is insane.

Hatton and DLH were terrible when Pac fought them, Christ

For this fight comparing what Barerra and Chavez do is a stretch.

The most important differences are the drastic gulf in chin, physical strength and power..A lot of what prevented Barrera from keeping a whirl wind of speed and explosiveness like Pac having his way with him.

I have absolutely no problem saying Chavez's chin is far better then Hatton's. Not to mention he just about has him in every other department.

I just for the life of me cant understand why a win over David Diaz, an win over a weight drained, faded corpse of Hoya and an early blowout of Hatton can lead people to believe that Pac has what it takes to beat a prime Chavez.
    Its quite frankly madness.

A better fight to look at would be the Marquez rematch..which even as a Pac fan I have never been able to score for Manny.

No one has been able to intelligently pressure Manny like Chavez would have since a shop worn Morales. Which didnt end well the first time for a admittedly less polished Pac.

Ive said a couple of times Id prefer to see how Manny goes in his next couple of fights at these higher wieghts before having a definitive discussion on how he fares against the elite of 135-140.
I think he does give Julio some trouble with his speed of hand and foot early...but I see very little evidence to suggest anything other then a late round Chavez stomping in this one.

Far, far more proven fighter above 130...not even debatable.
