Would this fight go over any differently? Wasn't Cotto supposed to fight Manny about a year ago instead of facing trout but he turned the fight down? I know the names being tossed around now are Sergio, Floyd, Alvarez, but I think this is a possibility. Fight would probably have to be at a catchweight though.
If Manny still has a good performance left in him then he can beat Cotto, just how their styles mesh in my opinion but it really depends on how much he has left though.
Pac had Cotto nearly KTFO in round 3 of the first fight. No one has made Cotto that wobbly and hurt, not even Margarito. It only takes a well placed counter from Pac to repeat and force Cotto into a turtle shell the whole fight once again.
The thing is though that Cotto is a 147 lber fighting at 154, it isn't like he naturally would come in at 154 - that's why its a case of how much Pacquiao has left being the determining factor here. Tbh, I'd love to see Cotto back at 147 fighting the guys like Garcia and Matthysse when they eventually move up but I get that there is probably a lot more money to be made by fighting Canelo at 154.
I always will think Manny is a bad matchup for Cotto. Delvin landed some right hands, Cotto absorbed them and countered hard, that's his MO. He couldn't handle Manny's timing with the shots as he tried to come in.
