Would Manny be discouraged by Whitaker's defensive genius? Or just keep throwing punches & try to overwhelm Whitaker? Tough match to call. 12 rounds.
Even as a big fan of Manny Pacquiao, I don't think this would be a particularly tough match to call. Manny may give Pea the odd awkward moment with his erratic thrusting attacks and his sheer speed and volume, but Pea was no slouch himself at 135, and I see his jab being the key here. I see him keeping Pac out of range with his jab, making it hard for Pac to land, and basically outboxing him for a clear UD.
Pretty much agree. If Pac did what he sometimes does when being outboxed and tries to force Pea to trade (Pac's handspeed may almost cancel out Pea's reflexes at times) I think Pac would be shocked to find someone with someone with just as fast hands, crisper (if not as powerful) punches and someone willing to trade with him who would probably be getting the better of the exchanges. By no means a 'schooling' or whatever idiot terms there are out there, but I think Roach would find it hard to give Pac any advice that he could implement against Pea. 117-111 Sweet Pea
Imo Pac would be lucky to win a round. Whitaker would get the better of him in every position, inside, mid range, long range. Pacs advantages over Pea. Perhaps power, although that is not conluisive. With even handspeed Pea's adatages over Pac everything else. Whitaker very wide UD
Pernell would win a decision. The man was incredible. He was so good Floyd is similar to a poor mans Whitaker.
actually i'm thinking it's wider than that. pac getting at least 2 rounds and whitaker outboxing him for 10 rds
A stoppage for Pea is not out of the question. Manny is still unproven as a Lightweight, and when Pea opened up, he had a lot of pop. I could see him being ahead on the cards, until late, where the outclassed Pacquao would be catching too many shots coming in. He could be stopped late, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, and predict the obvious. Pea by UD12.
