A few months ago I inquired about who could be come the sport's next mega champ(holder of the IBF/WBC/WBA/WBO/Ring/lineal titles as well as ring magazine's no.1 p4p fighter all at the same time). Pacman is in a prime position to achieve just that. He's p4p no.1 and he has the WBC belt. He can pick up the ring/lineal title in Nov. if he can beat the JMM/Casa winner. That would only leave the WBO/WBA/IBF titles. Luckily, Campbell holds all 3 of these titles. He's fighting Guzman which would satisfy the WBO mando. The winner could satisfy the WBA mando in the fall. That would just leave the IBF mando. Well check this out; "For the purpose of unification of titles, the Champions of the World Boxing Association (“WBA”, the World Boxing Council (“WBC”, and the World Boxing Organization (“WBO” may be designated as “elite contenders” and may be permitted to fight for the unified title. Any unification bout, if approved by the Championships Committee, will take priority over the mandatory. Despite the general prohibition in Rules 5 A.2.(b); B.2.; and D.1.(a) above, the Champion may box a WBC, WBA or WBO champion within sixty (60) days of themandatory due date." This is straight from the IBF rule book. So not only could Pac satisfy the IBF mando, they would have an extra 2 months to make the fight. Campbell won the belt in March(he was the IBF mando). Therefore, that mando isn't due until Dec.(he has 9 months to make fulfill the mando). However, if the holder of that belt fights Pac, the fight could be made in February. So, for Pac to become the next mega champ, he needs to beat the JMM/Casa winner in Nov., and then beat the WBA/WBO/IBF champ in February. The biggest obsticle in this would be Pac. He would have to keep winning, and he would have to be willing to fight Campbell or Guzman. However, it's very much possible for him to achieve the rare feat.
Hopkins was a badass. unfortunately Pacquiao is such a huge money attraction that it'll be hard for him to keep his focus on the belts.
Yeah, that's why this probably won't happen. I can't see him fighting Guzman or Campbell if a Hatton fight is available.
Diaz will beat katsidis and then beat nate campbell or one of the other chumps and he will be back in the mix!:smoke
I sure do hope so.. I would like to see Pacquiao unify and become the next mega champ by beating both winners of the Campbell/Guzman fight & the JMM/Casa fight before going on to fight Hatton and Pacquiao is definitely in a good spot to do so..
Yeah, this is so much more important than a Hatton fight. I really hope Manny wants to unify. I know Campbell does.
He probably doesn't care, but it could be done within 8 months and he only needs to have two more fights. Hopefully, Malignaggi beats Hatton. If that happens, he may have no choice but to eventually fight the Guzman/Campbell winner.
Manny should fight the winner of jmm-cassa. If jmm wins then it will finally finish their unfinised buissiness and also they can dispute for the lineal championship at the same time.After that he can go up for Hatton cause i think hatton will not be around for a long time. By that time, the winner of guzzy- campbell and katsidis-juan diaz must fight each other for the remaining belts and fight Pacman for the undisputed lightweight champ.
It is possible that Pacman will follow in Bernard Hopkin's footsteps to bring all the major titles into this possession. Right now, he is 1/4 of the way there.
No offence, but Guzman's style would give Pac nightmares. He should stay the hell away from him. Fight Campbell or someone, then move up and beat the **** out of that chump Hatton, and then retire; ATG status cemented.
Honestly I would MUCH rather see Pac unify the Lightweight Division than fight Hatton who is already slipping, if ever so slightly. Not to mention he really needs that 3rd fight with JMM regardless of whether he knows it or not. It would do WONDERS to his Legacy. But then again, we all know Pac loves the money as well. So my wish might certainly not happen. I hope it does.
I'll say one more impressive win against any of the current belt holders at 135 and he'll be a mega champ. The ring belt of Casa and the other belts that Campbell has rightnow is a big plus.
