"there is nobody in MMA with as much striking skill as Pacquiao" No ****! Is there anyone in MMA with the striking skill of ANY top tier professional boxer?
Boxing (the technique, not the sport) is a subset of MMA so that really isn't fair. Think of boxing as squares and MMA as rectangles. The rectangle fans might look at a square and say "damn that's a hell of a square, we don't have any rectangles that are so regularly shaped" and a square fan will look at rectangles and say "these oblong pieces of **** could never make it as squares."
How about lets get some opinions on crossover mma bout predictions between Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather vs Jose Aldo at 145lbs. Which style of boxing is better suited to take on an mma guy like that? I would assume after seeing James Tony who while a much slower version has a somewhat similar style to mayweather getting toasted by Randy that Pacquiao has a better style to face a well rounded and agressive Jose Aldo. Any thoughts?
:huhokay? going by your random, convoluted explanation, and the rectangle fans who hop in the square against top square practitioners will get knocked out of the box because square fighters refine and take square fighting to a level never before seen in the rectangle, or anywhere outside of the square for that matter.
I think you completely missed the analogy. Boxing is a small part of MMA. Obviously they can't afford to focus nearly as much attention and training on that one aspect of their sport as a boxer would be able to. Not to mention that when boxing in an MMA fight, the fighter also has to be mindful of far more than just incoming punches, e.g. leg kicks, elbows, takedowns, etc. Believe me, I'm no MMA apologist and I find the sport mostly boring and borderline homosexual, but it's unfair and ignorant to compare an MMA fighter's boxing skills to a boxer's and not see the gross inherent advantages retained by the latter.
I got it somewhat, but I didn't get it completely because it was completely unnecessary and convoluted. also, I at no point compared an mma fighter's boxing skills with a boxer's boxing skills in spite of some given advantage. how could I have, when i clearly said this, " because square fighters refine and take square fighting to a level never before seen in the rectangle." I simply detailed what would happen as a result of those gross, inherent advantages. read it again.
Lol, yeah this is what I always tell my MMA fans its that as much as I love MMA you will never see the level of skill in MMA that you will see in boxing. Top boxres are all on another level.
