Really ? Boxing not even on free tv like it was when JCC fought. JCC was on sixty minutes and Time Magazine ? I don't remember movie stars and NBA players running to watch JCC train

In terms of Global Popularity, Pac is nowhere near someone like the status of Muhammad Ali. Not even close.

Ali occupies a rather unique place in social and cultural significance that no other sportsman or entertainer has or will, most likely, ever achieve.

Ali did it with it in the ring as well as out of it. Manny gets boxing recognition, for the most part, but he's never going to be on any chat shows around the world, have books of his sayings printed, or get mobbed on the streets of some northern English town like Ali did. Big difference.

Still, Pac is certainly more of a world cultural figure than any other boxer out there. The comparison I used for Ali and Pac, you can use for Pac and Floyd, whose world standing is like a **** into the ocean.

Disagree slightly. He stopped traffic in DC when he visited Obama and he was visible in public. He's been on 60 minutes. A regular on Jimmy Kimmel (admittedly maybe a half-joke because of his karaoke sessions). May very well have helped save Harry Reid his job as a senator. He has endorsements from Nike. He may very well damn bring boxing back to mainstream if his Mosley fight is a wild success.

Circumstances are a bit different, but it's hard to deny their huge cultural impacts, and Pac getting even bigger right now.

Again you need to remember how big boxing was when Ali fought. it was on A major network and there were only 10 channels to watch.

If you compare the sports popularity and adjust the numbers Manny is on that level.

everybody I know, knows who Ali is.
About 70% know who Manny is. 70 is being generous

The most famous boxers in order are
    Muhammed Ali
    Mike Tyson
    Rocky Balboa

There's a saying - can't remember where I heard it from - but it went something like 'Ali would be welcomed into any home in the world'.

There's a certain feeling - practicalities aside - that allows belief in Ali and how well loved he is that the saying could well be true.

I'm not disparaging Pac's accomplishments but the reality of the situation between him and Ali is obvious in your own reply.

Ali fought when boxing WAS mainstream. Pac is fighting at a time, unfortunately, when the global reverence for the sport is limited to fans willing to shell out a few bucks every now and then, and the mainstream crowd remains largely ignorant. Its everyday global reach is incredibly limited and whereas Pac's visit to Manchester might make for some column inches in the sports pages, Ali's visit to Ireland makes the regular news pages. Again, big difference.

Where Pac's status is untouched by Ali's is in his Phillipine home. But beyond that, although incredibly popular, he's nowhere close to what Ali has achieved and I don't think ever will. Ali is and was unique.

I'm aware of the difference in time and era all too well, and my comparison acknowledges those aspects.

Ok, let's break it down then. Do you seriously think that if Pac went to some little English town tomorrow he would get mobbed? Ali would. That's a fact.

Main difference between guys like Ali and Tyson compared to the other big names in boxing is that Ali and Tyson had big personalities. Ali has "charisma". Mike Tyson has a fascinating personality. emmanuel can't even open his mouth.

The majority of Pac fans are a fkn embarassment & this thread is just further proof of their stupidity.

He`s not even the best of the last 20 yrs never mind of all time.

pacfucs can go suck a dick as far as Im concerned, they are a waste of spunk tbh.

Leonard, you're just being naughty again as I think you are purposely not acknowledging what Pac's achieved despite English not being his mother tongue. Given that factor, Pac has achieved way beyond any other non-english speaker has done and that's incredibly admirable in its own right.

But, by the same token, his lack of English speaking skills will always limit his opportunities to be as popular as Ali or even Tyson on a global cultural level. That fact can't be dismissed...for now...as any dipshiat can learn to speak English...see Floyd Mayweather Jr. who even stutters like a mother****er when overly excited.

It's not directly only towards him. Even other famous boxers who can speak English can't "outdo" Ali or Tyson. They don't have the larger than life personalities like those two.
