Manny Pacquiao is a More accurate Power puncher than Floyd Mayweather.

  1. Some people seem to think Mayweather is the most accurate puncher but the truth of the matter is that Pacquiao is more accurate than Mayweather.

Pacquiao throw more punches and is a combination puncher, both these things redcue accuracy. On top of this Pacquiao is a harder puncher and throws harder puncher, another thing that will effect accuracy.

We also have to forget about the jab as the jab is use to open a defence and find range, so it can be used effectively even though it is not landing.

Pacquiao also lands his punches right on the button, bang on the chin, Mayweather punches are more scoring punches.

Pacquiao landed an astonishing 50% of his power punches against Mosley while Mayweather landed an impresiive 46%, still 4 % less than Pacquiao. And Mosley was in defensive mode when facing Pacquiao and Pacquiao was throwing more punches than Mayweather.

Pacquiao also had a 15% edge over Mayweather in their respective fights with Cotto. And higher percentages against Hatton and Oscar too.

Lets look at a some punch stats

    Pacquiao vs Bradley
    190 / 493: 39%

    Pacquiao vs Marquez III
    117 / 274: 43%

    Pacquiao vs Mosley
    177 / 353: 50%

    Pacquiao vs Margarito
    411 / 713: 58%

    Pacquiao vs Clottey
    232 / 682: 34%

    Pacquiao vs Cotto
    276 / 560: 49%

    Pacquiao vs Hatton
    65 / 105: 62%

    Pacquiao vs De la Hoya
    195 / 333: 59%

    Pacquiao's 8 fight Average: 49.3%

    Mayweather vs Cotto
    128 / 381: 34%

    Mayweather vs Ortiz
    61 / 125: 49%

    Mayweather Mosley
    123 / 267: 46%

    Mayweather Marquez
    105 / 177: 59%

    Mayweather vs Hatton
    100 / 257: 39%

    Mayweather vs De La Hoya
    138 / 241: 57%

    Mayweather vs Baldomir
    131 / 258: 51%

    Mayweather vs Judah
    145/295 49%

    Mayweather's 8 fight average 48%

So the stats back it up Pacquiao is more accurate, by 1.3% in power punches.

What makes this even more remarkable is that Pacquiao is a volume puncher an aggressor and he throws combinations, three things that should reduced your accuracy, so if Pacquiao would fight Mayweather's pot shot defensive style his accuracy would go up even further.

Fighting the way Pacquiao does makes it much harder to land, so for Pacquiao to already in front of Mayweather just shows how much more accurate a puncher is Pacquiao.

    Poll Coming!!!!:bbb

  2. Is there another fighter that has such a high connect % against top level fighters as Pacquiao has had?

did you average the averages up or did you add up the attempted punches thrown and divide them by total punches landed

  5. Average the averages.

A fighter should not be penalised for knocking someone out.

Accuracy normally improves as fighter get to the later rounds.

The actual percentages of power punch accuracy is lower, but the point still stands that Pacquiao's percentage is higher than Mayweather's.

However I have to say the jab is a fighters most effective weapon and taking it away from someone who uses it alot is obviously going to swing the percentages in the favor of someone who throws alot of power punches.

Pac is also boosted by fighting a walking punch bag in Margarito, knocking Hatton out quick because the percentage would have fallen as the fight went on and fighting a drained and shot Oscar.

The styles of both fighters also makes it more likely that Pac's percentage would be higher as he throws alot of power punch combinations whereas Mayweather throws one or two, one or two punches is easier to defend against. In all honesty the percentages being so close is actually a compliment to Mayweather.

He also beat JMM three times compared to Mayweather's weight-cheat victory

  15. Not at all, throwing combos, make it much harder to land all, pot shoting makes it easy just to land the single punch.

Plus Mayweather is countering, bigger target to aim for because the guard is down.

As the attack Pacquiao has smaller gaps to get through because the guard is up.
