Since he came to 130.....Morales has a great chin and is a superb fighter. But I had seen Morales fight MAB at that weight, and neither were the same fighters they were even the year before, much less in their primes. Morales shouldn't have been able to handle the Pacquiao that beat MAB at 126, despite his greatness and style.

When Pacquiao stepped in the ring with Morales, I saw slightly less power and I could see every punch he threw as soon as he threw it. Many wouldn't have noticed the slight change in speed. I think I noticed it because I watched Jones Jr. so often that when he slowed down a little in 2001 I noticed that slight change from super fast to just fast, and so I was a little more aware of subtle changes in speed. Pacquiao isn't quite as fast as Jones, but like Jones, in his prime, I couldn't see the BEGINNING of his punches. Sure I could see the punch itself, but only right before it connected.

Then I noticed in his next few fights that while his punches hurt, they weren't staggering his opponents like they did at 122. Go back and look at 122 Pacquiao, and you will see that his opponents looked shocked that not did they get hit and didn't see it coming, but shocked that they got hit so hard. That's when I knew that he was beginning to slow down.

Very interesting angle with the Jones comparison, and not what I expected.
With this perspective, Pac has been on the decline for a few years, and maybe the added use of his right hand and his improved body attack masked these changes, or at least helped level out what would have been a sharper decline without the added weapons.

His defense and right hand are infinitely improved from what I can tell. Pacquiao was moving his head this weekend, presenting angles coming in and not nearly as off balance as he was in his first fight with JMM.

We always shared this view of PAc at 122...a real sensation

Not as great as Gomez but better overall fighter than Gomez who had problems moving up in weight

Gomez and Pacquiao would have hit each other at the same time and broken each others jaw. Fight would have ended in a draw. That's my story and I'm stickin to it!

Though i can't agree on all points, this has got to be one of the best and most objective perspective i have read posted on ESB on Pac--sans the high level of emotion (either rabid hate or blind nuthugging) as a fighter of Pac's caliber often evokes...:thumbsup

abc, Excellent post! I especially liked your analysis of Pac v Morales. Spot on all round. I will save this post to look a back on in the future when all you say comes to pass and it is time to look back on PAc's career. Keep it up buddy:good
