Manny Pacquiao versus Salvador Sanchez.....

I'd take Salvador by KO.

 

Morales had arguably the best chin of his era. He went toe to toe with everybody except Pacquiao who he conceded the role of boxer against. He was never knocked down legitimately knocked down in his prime. Wasn't knocked out until he was washed up.

 

I rate Morales higher than Marquez and Barrera. I also had him beating MAB twice.

Morales and Barrera were not the same fighters from 2000. I followed boxing back then and the consensus in the fights that followed was that they both left something in the ring after their first war.

By the time the rubber match between Morales and MAB had occurred both had lost a step, but Morales seemed to be more battle worn . The next thing is almost unheard of, but after the aging Morales lost to Barrera in the rubber match in a brutal war he fights Pacquiao with less than 2 months rest!!!

After clearly beating Pacquiao he once again loses, this time to a contender.

Morales was done at the highest level, he lost to an aging Barrera, and lost to a C level fighter.

Salvador Sanchez did everything better then Morales, JMM and Barrera, and that's why he gets ranked higher than them, and I've seen some rank him higher than Lopez and Chavez... a testament to his greatness.

2004-2005 Morales was at the tail end of his career. A peak Morales was 2000.
You should watch Sanchez fight Gomez, Lopez, and Nelson.

I can't see how he beats a great complete fighter like Sal.

 

Pacquiao had an iron chin at 122-130. No chance that Salvador can KO him. Pacquiao was never hurt from his days at 122-130. And some of the guys he fought were great fighters.

 

P4P the Morales in the 3rd Barrera fight and first Pacquiao fight would kill the Morales in the first Barrera fight.

The 2004 Morales made the 2000 Morales look like a crude slugger. And his chin was still top notch.

 

Nothing tops the skill, will, and ferocity of the first fight. Two ATG at their absolute prime, their peak going at it with controlled and measured violence.

 

Pacquiao wins at any weight class.

 

Meh, he was KO'd earlier and afterwards in his career though by guys not in the same level of pedigree of Salvador Sanchez, I think he could do it, but maybe you're right a stoppage isn't necessarily likely.

 

I couldn't disagree more than so. Morales badly overextended with his right hand in the 9th round in the first Barrera fight. And Barrera absolutely punished him for that immediately after. I remember it crystal clearly. It was a mistake made by a young and still learning fighter.

Morales from 2004 and early 2005 WOULD NEVER MAKE THAT MISTAKE.

Erik Morales was a much more technical fighter in 2004, but he had yet to physically deteriorate by then either.

 

He was KD by a jab thrown by Nedal Hussein. He was out for over 10 seconds. It's on YouTube.

He was also wobbled by Oscar Larios....

I'm pretty dam sure an ATG like Sanchez can do a better job then Hussein and Larios.

 

I also think it's wrong that you say 2000 was Barrera's peak when his peak STARTED during the Hamed fight and lasted until the 3rd Morales fight.

Barrera became a masterclass technician starting with the Hamed fight.

 

Pacquiao was never hurt during his days at 122-130. The guy fights Morales, Barrera, Marquez and Ledwaba and still never hurt.

Larios hit him with a punch he didn't see. Pac wasn't wobbled anybody who gets caught totally blind will cover up. Pac even did an Ali shuffle after that because it didn't hurt him.

Nobody ever hurt him at 122-130.

Best chin of his era? I dunno about that, matey. I seem to remember Chavez buzzing him pretty good and Jesus wasn't considered a massive puncher (though he certainly wasn't feather fisted).
