Valero should fight JMM or MAB first before Pac.

i don't like this fight at all, knowing pac has a soft spot he might take it easy on valero knowing the guy has serious brain injuries. I don't know about valero's head injury but pac has serious power to open up that damage again.

If there was no injuries though, i would like this fight to happen as it is a guaranteed war, total KO but i fear for valero.

underrated skill? was that the kind of skill in his last fight you were talking about, he fights like a bully come forward.

Pacquiao KO within 3. Valero has already shown his limitations and against an elite fighter like Pac he'd be severely outclassed. His wide, looping punches would allow Manny to land his own shots up the middle. Not to mention Pacquiao will pressure him and force him to fight off the backfoot, negating his power. He is outdone in nearly every area: speed, defence, chin, footwork, timing and arguably power.

Valero doesn't posses the skill to outbox Pac for the full 12 rounds, he'd be forced to fight where Pacquiao is at the advantage. Neither does he have the chin and skill of Morales to brawl with him for 12. I really can't see how Valero would win this fight except for a lucky punch (which is very unlikely).

Pacquiao puts the pressure on and stops Valero early.

Frankly, that's the healthiest thing for Valero if this fight happens. It's taking a sustained, Diaz-like beating that would make me worry about his health much moreso than a quick stoppage.

Taking Valero's health out of the equation though, I'm psyched about this fight. History might not put too much weight on it, but this is still going to be much more exciting than the typical stay busy fight.

Manny looking great again is only going to build up that much more buzz for a LW unification fight or a showdown with Hatton in early 09 (I'm hoping for unification first, hopefully with Guzman).

It's true that Valero punches wide, but awkward is the better word IMO.

A lot of awkward punchers were successful because of their punching style like Bika, Hamed, even the PacMan of the old days. The Venezuelan only defense is the crude offense, but so far he could always find a way to land those crude punches, since a good amount of them are coming without the opponent seeing them. Unconventional boxing is still boxing, some fighters made an ATG career on that. Of course Valero is not a world-beater, but pretty good at what he does, giving angles and throwing awkward shots with sick power, and PacMan is not exactly a great counter-puncher, so I'd say that there's a good chance that Edwin's style will have success to make it competitive for a few rounds.

he does have a awkard punch. but one thing that i noticed about valero is that he fires off the wide right over and over and over to the head. if mp did what he did to diaz and moved his head alot this can pose a big problem for valero aswell as mp improved right. That and valero rarely goes for the body. he rather hit hard and jar the fighter then go for a open body shot.

A few highlight videos of Valero. Don't expect world beaters here.

BTW, according to the ESB article, the deal is close, the date could be November 8 and it seems Valero is expected to move up in weight anyway, so this fight is more than likely, both sides want it and HBO probably loves it. Excellent fight for the fall.

"I think we are in a position to close the deal," Arum said - also referring to Valero as "The phenomenal kid who has won every single fight by Knockout."

I would love this fight just to put an end to all the valero hype. Pac by easy KO.
