All that is needed is for someone to pay Cotto's sanctioning fees and the title is on the line.
Manny can pay it if he wants this title bad.

And the whining about 2 pounds continues. The sport of boxing can sometimes be SO pathetic when it comes to this. :patsch:barf

Absolutelty, fight it at 145 lbs catchweight non-title fight or at 147lbs for the title.

The welterweight champion defending his title should have the opportunity to defend it using the full limit of 147!

Ok Let me put this simply for you.

The reason why weight limits exist is so that big men do not end up fighting small men.

A boxing match should be pitting your skills, talent, stamina, heart and brain against the other fighter.

Not about small men beating big men - then it's just a freak show.

If one of the fighters is coming in 13 pounds heavier than the other one it is not fair. Hence catchweight.

People think this is an easy fight for Pac to win. Believe me it's not. Watch the highlights on you tube of Cotto. This is a hard hard fight for Pac. People love to hate and because Cotto hasn't been DOMINANT in his last few fights he is being underestimated. We'll see if Pac can take the power of a big, strong, prime fighter like Cotto on fight night.

I personally think they should have the fight at 147 and put a limit on how much Cotto can bloat to. I know everybody does it but he shouldn't be coming into a 147 WW fight at 160 anyway. The LIMIT is 147 FFS.

The system does NOT work, and same day weigh-ins are not the answer because of the health implications.

This is all getting very silly over what are basically numbers.

Cotto will outweigh Pac by over 10 POUNDS come fight night REGARDLESS.

Why don't they have the fight at 147 and then put a cap on how much Cotto can bloat?? Then Cotto will come in at the same weight but as it's AT 147 (jeeez the WW range is 141-147 so it IS A WW fight anyway) people will stop wingeing.

    - if it's for the title, then it should be @ 147lbs.. pac's the challenger so cotto's camp should be the ones making demands regarding the weight limit.

    - but if it's a non-title then they could just settle for 145lbs.

.. it would also save pac from "excuses" once he beats cotto.

Yes the range is 141 to 147 therefore a fighter can weigh as high as 147lbs which Cotto is being prevented from doing so.

Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of Pac and I think he is taking risks fighting at a higher weight but I do feel that if he wants a WW title he shouldn't prevent the champion from weighing up to the limit.

What's to prevent Lightweights from fighting WW champions at 141 lbs next?

What are requirements for the WBO WW title to be on the line?

    1. The fight must happen below 147lbs
    2. The challenger must be ranked in the division
    3. The fighters must pay their sanctioning fees.

As long as these 3 requirements are met, then there is no logical reason that the title should not be on the line. Its an open and shut case. Whether there is a catchweight or not, that is an agreement between the two fighters and should not be taken into consideration when it comes to the issue of putting the title on the line.

Let me say this again, the catchweight is an agreement between the two fighters and should not be taken into consideration when it comes to the issue of putting the title on the line. The WBO has no business taking the catchweight into consideration as long at the fighters are below 147lbs on fight night.

As far as the WBO is concerned, Cotto is allowed to weigh in at 147 if he wants to. The agreement between team Pacqiuao and team Cotto for the catchweight penalty has nothing to do with the WBO or the commission or anyone else.

the argument that the title should not be on the line has no logical merit. And to top it off, all precedents show that in fact, the title can and should be on the line. Hopkins vs De La Hoya, Whitaker vs Chavez, Taylor vs Norris are all good examples.

LYou cats are all the same....Point is Pac isnt going to fight if the fight is at 147, so if the fight dont happen does the WBO strip Cotto since they have now installed Pac as the number one contender??? Bottom Line is SIMPLE if Pac wasnt a shot at the title then the fight is at 147 if not then Cotto will fight him at 145.

How come title fights happened in a catchweight before and nobody's bitchin about it? Probably because people didnt know the word "excuses" back then. Some fighters are like that, they want the best competition out there, but they will fight them on equal grounds. Its not really honorable if you beat your opponent having all the advantages. Right now, Both fighter's agreed to fight at 145lbs. Whats the use of keeping the belt when you lost a fight to someone who belongs to a weight class lower than you?

You're wrong. If Cotto weighs in at 147 then the fight still goes down. Cotto pays the penalty and they still fight. Thats the whole point of the penalty. Thats the whole reason that there is a catchweight. It has nothing to do with the title. The title has nothing to do with the catchweight, its only the purse. As far as the title is concerned, Cotto can weigh in at 147 if he wants to.

You're either too dumb to understand that or just too much of a hater. Either way, you're wrong.

the whole POINT of the penalty is that they will still fight if Cotto comes over the limit. Its not like they are gonna fine Cotto and then call off the fight. You think Arum will let that happen after all the money he has poured into this fight??? We're talking over 100million$ of revenue.

Damn man, you really don't get it.

The whole point is that if Cotto is over the catchweight, Pac gets an extra million per pound and they still fight. Pac is guaranteed something like 15million$ for this fight, if you think he's gonna call it off because Cotto weighs in at 147 instead of 145 then I don't know what you tell you because your sense of judgement is just terrible.

And the worst part is that this is not the first time it happens. Other fighters have fought for titles at catchweights. Its been done before. There was no problem then, and there's no problem now. Its just common sense
