It is what it is homie.....you don't have to accept it but Manny has the respect and admiration of the boxing peers...from boxers to "experts", writers to historians, PAC has their utmost respect for many reasons. But his demeanor and the way he carries himself as humble I'm sure helps with being help in such high regard. Of course most of his standing is becasue of what he does and how he does it. He perfroms at a high level and delivers in dominating fashion.
I disagree with the ones that compare ODLH and Pacquiao. Pacquiao is much better. Who are Oscar's best wins? Julio Cesar Chavez (34 years old, shot), Pernell Whitaker (33 years old, shot, and that fight was controversial) and Fernando Vargas. Pacquiao beat Barrera twice (only the second time Barrera was past his best, but not shot), Morales (Morales was shot), Juan Manuel Marquez, Hatton and De la Hoya (weight drained and old, but it was a welterweight fight for Pacquiao). Both, Pacquiao and DLH, fought fighters that were past their prime, but Pacquiao also beat great fighters in their prime like Barrera (the first time), Marquez and Hatton. De la Hoya also beat prime fighters like Quartey and Vargas, but those guys never were close to P4P rankings. Let's not forget their jumping in different weight divisions. De la Hoya jumped from 130 to 160 pounds with success, winning 3 lineal titles. Pacquiao jumped from 106 to 145 pounds, winning 4 lineal titles in the process. So this area also goes to Pacquiao.
thats the way to do it bro.... one of this day there will be another hate thread that will be created by alts of uliuli.... just STFU uliuli... now I prove to you that you are the #1 pac hater who jumps right away to every pac's thread to discredit pac's win..... Whats your point? did pac raped your girlfriend? oh I forgot that pac raped your bf hoya.
You are ranking PAc right now, while is he still fighting... over great fighters who are dead and buried, legends, atg's and greats. Please, it is sickening to read. Stop!
Robbed Whitaker?? No, hardly a robbery, a close fight yes, can an argument be made for Whitaker? Sure But then, to be fair you have to take the JMM fight into consideration, both of them, the first a draw where an argument can be easily made that JMM won 9 rounds. The secind many Philipino media outlets and reporters had JMM winning. Funny how his biggest fights of his life were when he was past his best vs Hopkins and for a non title fight vs Pac where he was clearly shot. Since when does someone have the biggest fights of his life when they are past their prime???? Only a ******* would think of something like that. That's like saying SRL lost the biggest fight of his life to Camacho, or Chavez lost the biggest fight of his life to DLH...You need to get better schooled in boxing before trying to debate something you know very little about. Morales had lost to a past prime barrera and to a journey man before Pac beat him, where's the glory in that?? Hell, past prime Barrera beat Morales and Pac lost to that Morales. Pac lost to two bums in his youth and was saved by the ref vs Hussein. Then after Pac got lucky vs JMM, he took the easiest route, being carefully managed by roach by fighting the weakest title holder at 135, a dude that arguably became a title holder by getting a gift against an extremely shot Morales. Pac's career has been carefully managed after the almost JMM disaster. Pac ONLY accepted the fight against Cotto when he saw how he looked vs Clottey, GUARANTEED had Cotto blown Clottey away in a couple rounds, we would not have sen the whole 143-145 lb fiasco raised by Team Pac because Pac would not have called Roach to make the fight happen.
Pernell Whitaker is usually considered a Top15 fighter of all time. I wonder how much better is he than Pacquiao. He is definitely greater, but how much greater? Whitaker's best wins are Jose Luis Ramirez, Azumah Nelson, Buddy McGirt x2 and Julio Cesar Vasquez. Pacquiao's best wins are Barrera x2, Morales x2 (shot Morales), Marquez, De la Hoya (shot) and Hatton. And if we are counting Nelson for Whitaker, let's also count Larios for Pacquiao. How much greater is Whitaker's resume? Is the difference so big to justify Whitaker being a Top15 ATG and Pacquiao a Top40 ATG? Lineal Titles: Whitker was Lineal champion at Lightweight (1990-1992) and Welterweight (1993-1997). Pacquiao was Lineal champion at Flyweight (1998-1999), Featherweight (2003-2004), Junior Lightweight (2008 ) and Light Welterweight (2009). Jumping through weight divisions: Whitaker's career was from 135 to 154 pounds. Pacquiao's career was from 106 to 145 pounds. While Whitaker is greater than Pacquiao, is he really THAT much greater?
DLH has lost many of his biggest fights albiet many of them contraversial and most I think he should have won. But it is what it is. PAC has won most of his biggest....only loosing once and drawing once, which the draw SHOULD have been a win. Which is why PAC is higher. Could you imagine if DLH won ALL of those big fights? Nard, Shane, Tito, Floyd, PAC? He'd be in the top 20 too...if not the top 15. Everything has to have perspective.
I'm ranking DLH, Tito, Shane, Nard, Jones Jr, Floyd and many, many others in the ATG too. Not just PAC. Just b/c some true greats are dead and buried or true legends of the sport doesn't mean I'm disrespecting any one of them. It's just conversation brah. Be easy....I didn't say where in the top 20 I rate PAC but I have guys like Duran and Ray Leonard ahead of PAC.
Nard, Floyd, and Pac were when he was past his prime. If you're going to take that into account, then you have to take Pac's losses when he was younger.
Quite clearly. Whitaker is far superior in skill level. Not to mention is regarding in the Top 10-15 in at least two of the divisions he has competed in, while it is simply not the case for Pac (maybe 126). You forget the performances he had against guy's like Chavez (we ALL know he CLEARLY won), Haugen, and Pineda which are some of the best masterclass's witnessed in the sport. Manny has yet to match such performances against such competition. His greatnesses was confirmed by his performances past his prime against Hurtado and Hoya.
Top 20 at the moment, Beating Cotto goes to top 15, if he can beat Mosley or Mayweather, he goes to top 10.
I don't just look at a certian time frame when I consider ATG rankings...it's their entire career. Even how they perfromed past their best days. That alone says alot about the fighters....or when they were green, young and unexperienced. It's a package deal
Look, Pac isn't a top 20 fighter, and those who have him ranked in their top 20 right now don't deserve respect as a follower of this sport.
I don't know why I check back into threads like this. It is like I keep looking for the ridiculous, or like in movies, they say..."Don't open that door", and SURPRISE!!! LOL...
That's fine homeboy. Your respect means about as much to me as how you wipe your own ass on any given day. This is a forum to discuss boxing and these are opinions. The majority know PAC is a top 20 ATG in boxing b/c of two things. His accomplishments and dominance. You judge fighters based on who they beat and how they beat them. It's all good....you obviously don't really like PAC, which is fine, but you don't deserve respect yourself if you base your conclusions on a fighters career based on your emotional connection, or lack there of for any fighter. I don't particularly like Floyd's personality, but I think he's needed and a key figure in boxing based on his talent, skill level and accomplishements...I love to watch him in the ring and his personality brings anther demension in a multi demensional sport but just bc I don't mesh well with who he is...as a fighter I gotta respect his craft and accomplishments. I dont let personal feelings cloud what's real.
